BAG1 binds to BCL2 and is also called BCL2-associated athanogene. BAG1 increases the anti-apoptotic effects of BCL2 and is characterizes as a link between growth factor receptors and anti-apoptotic mechanisms. BAG1 inhibits the chaperone activity of HSP70/HSC70 by promoting substrate release. BAG1 inhibits the pro-apoptotic function of PPP1R15A, and has anti-apoptotic activity. BAG1 enhances the anti-cell death function of BCL2 induced by various stimuli.

BCL2-associated athanogene 2 (BAG2) belongs to the Bag family of proteins. BAG2 is a chief component of the HSC 70/CHIP chaperone-dependent ubiquitin ligase complex and acts to upset CHIP-mediated ubiquitylation. BAG proteins compete with Hip for attaching to the Hsc70/Hsp70 ATPase domain and promote substrate discharge. All the BAG proteins have a roughly 45 amino acid BAG domain by the C-terminus but vary clearly in their N-terminal regions. The BAG domains of BAG1, BAG2, and BAG3 act together expressly with the Hsc70 ATPase domain in vitro and in mammalian cells. All three proteins attach with high affinity to the ATPase domain of Hsc70 and obstruct its chaperone activity in a Hip-repressible manner.

BolA Homolog 1(BOLA1) is a member of the bolA/yrbA family. BolA proteins, which include the: hBolA1, hBolA2, and hBolA3, are novel non-classical secreted proteins detected with bioinformatics and molecular biology experiments. The 3 BolA fusion proteins with c-Myc tag can be secreted into the culture medium of the transfected Cos-7 cells, even though they could not be colocalized with Golgi apparatus. Also, the secretion of 3 BolA proteins could not be inhibited after BFA treatment.

Galectins are a family of animal lectins with an affinity for beta-galactosides. This family has at least 14 identified members. Native human C3a is created by cleavage of human C3 protein by a human C3 convertase. C3a is a member of the anaphylatoxin family of three proteins (C3a, C4a and C5a) created by the activation of complement. C3a mediates various inflammatory responses including smooth muscle contraction, increased vascular permeability, vasodilation and release of histamine from mast cells and basophils. C3a (In contrast to C5a) does not exhibit significant neutrophil stimulating activities and does not induce chemotaxis, granule release or superoxide production. C3a acts through the C3a Receptor which is a G-protein coupled receptor found mainly on peripheral tissues, lymphoid cells and in the central nervous system. These activities of C3a are inactivated by removal of the C-terminal arginine which happens rapidly in plasma due to the action of carboxypeptidase N.

Terlipressin is similar to a naturally occurring hormone present in the body, known as antidiuretic hormone (ADH) or vasopressin. ADH has two main effects in the body. Firstly, it causes narrowing of blood vessels (vasoconstriction), thereby limiting blood flow to a particular area of the body. It also acts on receptors in the kidney to retain water in the body, which helps to prevent excessive loss of water in the urine. Terlipressin is commonly used to stop bleeding of varices in the food pipe (oesophagus). Varices are fragile distended veins that can occur in various parts of the body such as the oesophagus. This is caused by an increase in blood pressure in certain diseases such as severe liver disease. These fragile varices can rupture and lead to life threatening bleeding. Terlipressin is therefore given to narrow blood vessels, and so restricting blood flow to the varices and stopping the bleeding.
