CD40L or CD154 is a membrane glycoprotein and differentiation antigen expressed on the surface of T-cells. The CD40 ligand stimulates B-cell proliferation and secretion of all immunoglobulin isotypes in the presence of cytokines . CD40 ligand has been shown to induce cytokine production and tumoricidal activity in peripheral blood monocytes. It also costimulates proliferation of activated T-cells and this is accompanied by the production of IFN-gamma , TNF-alpha , and IL2 .

CD276, belongs to the B7 family of immunoregulatory transmembrane glycoproteins expressed by T cells. CD276 is a costimulatory molecule for T cell activation in addition to IFN-gamma production. Furthermore CD276 upregulates BRCC3 expression, preventing DNA defects caused by 5-Fu. CD276 is correlated with TNM stage of NSCLC and act as a potential biomarker for NSCLC-derived MPEs. CD276 inhibits natural-killer mediated cell lysis in tumor cells, and act as a marker for detection of neuroblastoma cells. CD276 is implicated in the development of acute as well as chronic transplant rejection and in the regulation of lymphocytic activity at mucosal surfaces. In addition, CD276 provides the placenta & fetus a proper immunological environment during the course of pregnancy.

The bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are a family of secreted signaling molecules that can induce ectopic bone growth. Many BMPs are part of the transforming growth factor-beta (TGFB) superfamily. BMPs were originally identified by an ability of demineralized bone extract to induce endochondral osteogenesis in vivo in an extraskeletal site. Based on its expression early in embryogenesis, the BMP encoded by this gene has a proposed role in early development. In addition, the fact that this BMP is closely related to BMP5 and BMP7 has lead to speculation of possible bone inductive activity.

Follistatin is a single-chain gonadal protein that specifically inhibits follicle-stimulating hormone release. The single FST gene encodes two isoforms, FST317 and FST344 containing 317 and 344 amino acids respectively, resulting from alternative splicing of the precursor mRNA. In a study in which 37 candidate genes were tested for linkage and association with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or hyperandrogenemia in 150 families, evidence was found for linkage between PCOS and follistatin. ANGPTL7 production is up-regulated in trabecular meshwork cells by glucocorticoids and TGF-Beta and in cartilage by TNF-alpha.

ANXA4 is part of the annexin family of calcium-dependent phospholipid binding proteins. ANXA4 has 45%-59% identity with other proteins of its family and shares a related size and exon-intron organization. ANXA4 interacts with ATP, and has in vitro anticoagulant activity and also inhibits phospholipase A2 activity. ANXA4 is exclusively expressed in epithelial cells. CD8 is a cell surface glycoprotein found on most cytotoxic T lymphocytes that mediates efficient cell-cell interactions within the immune system. CD8 acts as a co-receptor, and the T-cell receptor on the T lymphocyte recognize antigen displayed by an antigen presenting cell (APC) in the context of class I MHC molecules. The functional CD8 is either a homodimer composed of two alpha chains, or a heterodimer composed of one alpha and one beta chain. Both alpha and beta chains share significant homology to immunoglobulin variable light chains.
CD8 identifies cytotoxic/suppressor t-cells that interact with MHC class I bearing targets. CD8 is thought to play a role in the process of t-cell mediated killing. CD8 alpha chains binds to class-I MHC molecules alpha-3 domains.

Family With Sequence Similarity 19 Member-A5 (FAM19A5) belongs to the TAFA family which is comprised of 5 highly homologous genes encoding small secreted proteins. These proteins have conserved cysteine residues at fixed positions, and are remotely related to MIP-1alpha, which is a member of the CC-chemokine family. The TAFA proteins are primarily expressed in specific regions of the brain, and are assumed to serve as brain-specific chemokines or neurokines which act as regulators of immune and nervous cells.

CCL4L1 (C-C motif chemokine 4-like) is a member of to intercrine beta (chemokine CC) family. The CCL4L1 protein is similar to CCL4 which inhibits HIV replication in peripheral blood monocytes which express CCR5.

BCA1 therefore function in the homing of B lymphocytes to follicles. Human BCA-1 shares a 64% amino acid sequence similarity with the mouse protein and 23 - 34% amino acid sequence identity with other known CXC chemokines. Recombinant or chemically synthesized BCA1 is a potent chemoattractant for B lymphocytes but not T lymphocytes, monocytes or neutrophils. WNT7A is involved in the development of the anterior-posterior axis in the female reproductive tract, and also plays an essential role in uterine smooth muscle pattering and maintenance of adult uterine function. In addition, Mutations in WNT7A have been associated with Fuhrmann and Al-Awadi Raas-Rothschild Schinzel phocomelia syndromes.

CD58 is part of the immunoglobulin superfamily. CD58 is a ligand of the T lymphocyte CD2 protein, and is invloved in adhesion and activation of T lymphocytes. CD58 is localized to the plasma membrane.

CD160 antigen (CD160) is a human natural killer (NK)-cell-activating receptor which is also expressed on T-cell subsets. CD160 is a tumor-specific antigen known to mediate cellular activation signals in CLL, and is a novel target for therapeutic manipulation and monitoring of minimal residual disease. CD160 was identified as a T cell coinhibitory molecule which interacts with the herpesvirus entry mediator (HVEM) on antigen-presenting cells to deliver a potent inhibitory signal to CD4(+) T cells. CD160 expression is strongly associated with peripheral blood NK cells and CD8 T lymphocytes with cytolytic effector activity. CD160 is expressed on all intestinal intraepithelial lymphocytes. CD160 has a broad specificity for binding to both classical and nonclassical MHC class I molecules.
