Omentin is a recently recognized gene highly localized to the mental tissue (visceral adipose tissue). Omentin is present in the stromal vascular cells in the adipose tissue rather than in the adipocytes. Omentin is predominantly expressed in the visceral adipose tissue than the subcutaneous tissue, with the omentin mRNA being 150 times higher in the visceral adipose tissue. Omentin has also been detected in human blood using western blot analysis, and seems to increase insulin-stimulated glucose uptake in 3T3-L1 adipocytes in mice. Omentin seems to increase Akt phosphorylation irrespective of insulin presence. Its role in glucose metabolism and obesity remains to be described; an insulin-sensitizing action is possible.Differences in Omentin expression has been noted in adipose tissue from normals and patients with inflammatory bowel disease although its significance is unknown.

BLOC1S2 is a member of the BLOC1S2 family. Biogenesis of lysosome-related organelles complex 1 or BLOC-1 is a universally expressed multisubunit protein complex which is essential for regular biogenesis of specialized organelles of the endosomal-lysosomal system, like melanosomes and platelet dense granules. BLOC1S2 takes part in cell proliferation.

Syntaxin-11 (STX11) belongs to the t-SNARE family. Syntaxin-11 regulates protein transport between late endosomes and the trans-Golgi network. STX11 interacts with the SNARE proteins SNAP-23 and VAMP. STX11 gene mutations are linked with familial hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis.

Syntaxin-binding protein 6 (STXBP6) binds components of the SNARE complex and takes part in regulating SNARE complex configuration. STXBP6 forms non-fusogenic complexes with SNAP25 and STX1A and modulates the formation of SNARE complexes and exocytosis.

SUMO1 is a protein that belongs to the SUMO (small ubiquitin-like modifier) protein family. SUMO1 functions in a manner similar to ubiquitin in that it is bound to target proteins as part of a post-translational modification system. Still, unlike ubiquitin which targets proteins for degradation, SUMO1 is involved in a variety of cellular processes, for example nuclear transport, transcriptional regulation, apoptosis, and protein stability. SUMO1 is not active until the last four amino acids of the carboxy-terminus are cleaved off.

TREM1 is a transmembrane receptor protein that is involved in monocytic activation and in the inflammatory response. TREM1 is expressed on the surface of neutrophils, mature monocytes and macrophages. TREM1 stimulates neutrophil and monocyte-mediated inflammatory responses. TREM1 also triggers the release of pro-inflammatory chemokines and cytokines, as well as increased surface expression of cell activation markers. CLIC4 is a 253 amino acid single-pass membrane protein which localizes to both the nucleus and the cytoplasm and contains one GST C-terminal domain. CLIC4 acts as a monomer which is able to form selective ion channels in target proteins, thus facilitating the transport of chloride and other ions. Chromgranin-A is part of the neuroendocrine secretory protein family. CHGA is located in secretory vesicles of neurons and endocrine cells. Chromgranin-A is a precursor to three biologically active peptides; vasostatin, pancreastatin, and parastatin. These peptides act as autocrine or paracrine negative modulators of the neuroendocrine system. Other peptides, including chromostatin, beta-granin, WE-14 and GE-25, are also derived from the full-length protein. Chromgranin-A has numerous biological activities on some tissues and organs and exerts a large spectrum of homeostatic actions, including antifungal and antimicrobial effect, modulation of cell adhesion, and inhibition of parathyroid hormone secretion.

B-cell CLL/lymphoma 7A (BCL7A) is a member of the BCL7 family. BCL7A is directly involved, with Myc and IgH, in a three-way gene translocation in a Burkitt lymphoma cell line. Thru gene translocation, the N-terminal region of the BCL7A gene is disrupted, which is assumed to be connected to the pathogenesis of a subset of high-grade B cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The N-terminal portion involved in the translocation includes the region which shares a compelling sequence similarity with those of BCL7B and BCL7C. Chromosomal anomalies involving BCL7A may be a cause of B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
