Thymic Stromal Lymphopoietin Receptor (TSLPR) is a member of the type I cytokine receptor family. TSLPR alongside the interleukin 7 receptor (IL7R) activate STAT3, STAT5, and JAK2 pathways, which is regulated processes such as cell proliferation and development of the hematopoietic system. Two transcript variants encoding dissimilar isoforms have been found for this gene. TSLPR is expressed in heart, skeletal muscle, kidney and adult and fetal liver.

Neurexophilin 1 (NXPH1) is a part of the neurexophilin family which encodes a secreted protein with a variable N terminal domain, an extremely conserved, N-glycosylated central domain, a short linker region, and a cysteine-rich Cterminal domain. NXPH1 shapes a very tight complex with alpha neurexins, a group of proteins which promote adhesion among dendrites and axons.

Kallikrein-5 (KLK5) is a member of the serine protease family of proteolytic enzymes. KLK5 is expressed in various tissues including the salivary gland, stomach, uterus, lung, thymus, prostate, colon, brain, thyroid, and trachea. KLK5 expression is up-regulated by estrogens and progestins. KLK5 is secreted and may be involved in desquamation in the epidermis. Kallikreins which are a subgroup of serine proteases, have distinct physiological functions. Many kallikreins are associated with carcinogenesis and some have potential as novel cancer and other disease biomarkers. The KLK5 gene is one of the 15 kallikrein subfamily members located in a cluster on chromosome 19.

RANK, is part of the tumor necrosis factor receptor family. Vitronectin (VTN) which is a part of the pexin family is a cell adhesion and spreading factor found in serum and tissues. VTN interacts with glycosaminoglycans and proteoglycans. VTN inhibits the membrane-damaging effect of the terminal cytolytic complement pathway and binds to numerous serpin serine protease inhibitors. Scientists have been noticed an over expression of VTN, integrins and plasminogen in migrating cells during wound healing.

Tumor necrosis factor is a cytokine involved in systemic inflammation and is a member of a group of cytokines that all stimulate the acute phase reaction. TNF is mainly secreted by macrophages.

CTLA-4 is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily and encodes a protein which transmits an inhibitory signal to T cells. The protein contains a V domain, a transmembrane domain, and a cytoplasmic tail. Alternate transcriptional splice variants, encoding different isoforms, have been characterized. The membrane-bound isoform functions as a homodimer interconnected by a disulfide bond, while the soluble isoform functions as a monomer. Mutations in this gene have been associated with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, Graves disease, Hashimoto thyroiditis, celiac disease, systemic lupus erythematosus, thyroid-associated orbitopathy, and other autoimmune diseases.

ATPaseTransporting Beta 2 (ATP1B2) is the non-catalytic component of the active enzyme, which catalyzes the hydrolysis of ATP coupled with the exchange of Na+ and K+ ions across the plasma membrane. The precise function of the beta-2 subunit is not known. The ATP1B2 protein is composed of 3 subunits: alpha (catalytic), beta and gamma.

Vascular endothelial growth factor is an important signaling protein involved in both vasculogenesis and angiogenesis. As its name implies, VEGF activity has been mostly studied on cells of the vascular endothelium, although it does have effects on a number of other cell types (e.g. stimulation monocyte/ macrophagemigration, neurons, cancer cells, kidney epithelial cells ).VEGF mediates increased vascular permeability, induces angiogenesis, vasculogenesis and endothelial cell growth, promotes cell migration, and inhibits apoptosis. In vitro, VEGF has been shown to stimulate endothelial cell mitogenesisand cell migration. VEGF is also a vasodilator and increases microvascular permeability and was originally referred to as vascular permeability factor.
Elevated levels of this protein are linked to POEMS syndrome, also known as Crow-Fukase syndrome. Mutations in this gene have been associated with proliferative and nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy.

DKK1 is part of the dickkopf family. DKK1 is a secreted protein with 2 cysteine rich regions and takes part in embryonic development through its inhibition of the WNT signaling pathway. High levels of DKK1 in bone marrow plasma and peripheral blood is associated with the presence of osteolytic bone lesions in patients with multiple myeloma. Induction of DKK1 contributes to the pathological cascade triggered by beta-amyloid and is significantly involved in the development of tau phosphorylation.
DKK1 reduces the differentiation of osteoblastic precursor cells. DKK1 is an important member in multiple myeloma bone disease. DKK1 expression is reduced in human colon tumors, implying that DKK-1 plays a role as a tumor suppressor gene in this neoplasia; the Wnt/beta-catenin pathway is downregulated by the induction of DKK1 expression, a mechanism that is missing in colon cancer.

HMGB1 is an abundant chromatin-binding protein found in eukaryotic cell nucleus and acts in the assembly of nucleoprotein complexes. Inside the cell, HMGB1 binds to DNA and is involved in transcriptional regulation. Outside the cell, HMGB1 acts as a cytokine with activities that resemble those of tumor necrosis factor (TNF). HMGB1 is elevated significantly in chronic kidney disease patients and correlates with glomerular filtration rate as well as with markers of inflammation and malnutrition. Overexpression of HMGB1 is common in gastrointestinal stromal tumors and is related to the KIT mutation. HMG1 induces growth inhibition and apoptosis in macrophages through RAGE intracellular signaling pathway. The increase of extracellular HMGB1 observed in salivary glands of Sjogren's syndrome patients indicates that HMGB-1 is involved in the inflammatory process of the disease. HMGB-1 together with estrogen increase cell cycle progression in tumor cell lines.

Homeobox A9 (HOXA9) is a member of the Abd-B homeobox family. The HOXA9 protein is a transcription factor with a key role in both haemopoiesis and leukaemia. High levels of HOXA9 expression in haemopoietic cells is a distinctive feature of acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), and may be sufficient to cause this disease. HOXA9 overexpression noticeably expands hematopoietic stem cells. The HOXA9 gene is part of the A cluster on chromosome 7 and encodes a DNA-binding transcription factor which regulates gene expression, morphogenesis, and differentiation. HOXA9 is a sequence-specific transcription factor which is part of a developmental regulatory system, which provides cells with specific positional identities on the anterior-posterior axis. HOXA9 is essential for induction of E-selectin and VCAM-1, on the endothelial cells surface at sites of inflammation.

Biglycan (BGN) is a small cellular or pericellular matrix proteoglycan which takes part in assembly of collagen fibrils and muscle regeneration. BGN is closely correlated in structure to two other small proteoglycans, decorin and fibromodulin. BGN interacts with several proteins involved in muscular dystrophy, including alpha-dystroglycan, alpha- and gamma-sarcoglycan and collagen VI. BGN is also critical for the assembly of the dystrophin-associated protein complex.

Exodus-2 protein or CCL21 is a cytokine, part of the CC chemokines subgroup. Because of its 6 conserved residues of the cysteine amino acid (instead of the 4 residues we usually see in chemokines), the protein is also named 6Ckine and SLC (secondary lymphoid-tissue chemokine). Folate Receptor 1, also known as FOLR1, is a part of the folate receptor family whose members bind folic acid. FOLR1 binds to folate and reduced folic acid derivatives and facilitates transfer of 5-methyltetrahydrofolate and folate analogs into the cells. FOLR1 is either attaches to membranes through a glycosyl-phosphatidylinositol linkage or exists in a soluble form. FOLR1 is also needed for embryonic development and normal cell proliferation.

HEXA is the alpha subunit of the lysosomal enzyme beta-hexosaminidase which, combined with the cofactor GM2 activator protein, catalyzes the degradation of the ganglioside GM2, and other molecules having N-acetyl hexosamines terminus. The two subunits composing Beta-hexosaminidase, alpha and beta, belong to the glycosyl hydrolases family and are encoded by distinct genes. Alpha subunit gene mutations can cause Tay-Sachs disease (GM2-gangliosidosis type I).
