PRSS3 is a trypsinogen, and a member of the trypsin family of serine proteases. PRSS3 is expressed in the pancreas and brain and is unaffected by common trypsin inhibitors. It is active on peptide linkages involving the carboxyl group of lysine or arginine. PRSS3 is restricted to the locus of T cell receptor beta variable orphans on chromosome 9. 4 different isoforms encoded by 4 transcript variants were identified for this gene.

Serpin Peptidase Inhibitor, Clade A Member 9, also known as serpin A9, belongs to the Serpin superfamily of serine protease inhibitors. Serpins are the most extensively distributed superfamily of protease inhibitors which use a conformational modification to inhibit target enzymes. Serpins are known to inhibit serine proteases as well as inhibiting caspases in addition to papain-like cysteine proteases. Kallikrein-15 (KLK15) is one of the 15 kallikrein subfamily members located in a cluster on chromosome 19. KLK15 contains numerous polyadenylation sites and alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms. KLK15 is over expressed in prostate cancer and therefore uses as a diagnostic or prognostic marker for prostate cancer.

Heat Shock Protein B9 (HSPB9) is a member of the small heat shock protein (HSP20) family. HSPB9 is found in the cytoplasm as well as in the nucleus. HSPB9 is expressed specifically in the testis.

Dickkopf-related protein 3 (DKK3) belongs to the DKK protein family including Dkk-1, 2, 3 and -4. DKK3 is a 350 amino acid secreted glycoprotein which is comprised of an N-terminal signal peptide and 2 conserved cysteine-rich domains that are separated by a 12 amino acid linker region. DKK3 is involved in embryonic development through its inhibition of the WNT signaling pathway. DKK3 gene expression is decreased in a variety of cancer cell lines and it may act as a tumor suppressor gene.

Neurotensin (NTS) is a common precursor for 2 peptides, neuromedin N and neurotensin.
