The IL-1 family members display a 12 b-strand, b-trefoil configuration, and are thought to have ascended from a mutual ancestral gene. The protein encoded by this gene is a cytokine that regulates T and natural killer cell activation and proliferation. This cytokine and interleukine 2 share many biological activities. They are found to bind common hematopoietin receptor subunits, and may compete for the same receptor, and thus negatively regulate each other's activity. IL18R1 (interleukin 18 receptor 1) is an interleukin receptor which is part of the immunoglobulin superfamily. IL18R1 comprises 3 Ig-like C2-type domains, on TIR domain IL18R1 shares many immuno-regulatory functions with IL12. IL12 and IFN-alpha are found to induce the expression of IL18 receptor in NK & T cells. Moreover, IL18R1 explicitly binds interleukin 18, and is vital for IL18 mediated signal transduction. In the circulation, Adiponectin is present as three different oligomeric complexes, including the high molecular weight (HMW), the middle molecular weight (MMW, also called hexamer) and low molecular weigh (MMW, also called trimer) forms 8.
