OAS1 enzyme is a member of the 2’,5’-oligoadenylate synthetase family. OAS1 is induced by interferons and uses adenosine triphosphate in 2’-specific nucleotidyl transfer reactions to synthesize 2’,5’-oligoadenylates(2-5As). These molecules in turn activate latent RNase L resulting in viral RNA degradation and the inhibition of viral replication.
OAS1 may have a role in mediating resistance to virus infection, control of cell growth, differentiation, and apoptosis. OAS1 binds double-stranded RNA and polymerizes ATP into PPP (A2'P5'A)N oligomers, which activate the latent RNase L that, once activated, cleaves single-stranded RNAs.
OAS1 gene mutations are been linked to host susceptibility to viral infection.

Fructosamine 3 Kinase (FN3K) catalyzes the phosphorylation of fructosamines which may result in deglycation, the non-enzymatic reaction of glucose with primary amines followed by Amadori re-arrangement. Phosphorylation of fructosamines instigates metabolism of the modified amine and brings about the de-glycation of fructoselysine and of glycated proteins. A high concentration of glucose may affect non-enzymatic oxidation of proteins by reaction of glucose and lysine residues (glycation). Fructosamines, the proteins altered in this way, are less active or functional.

Proteasome 26S Subunit, Non-ATPase 5, also known as PSMD5 is a member of the proteasome subunit S5B/HSM3 family. Resistin, a product of the RSTN gene, is a peptide hormone belonging to the class of cysteine-rich secreted proteins which is termed the RELM family, and is also described as ADSF (Adipose Tissue- Specific Secretory Factor) and FIZZ3 (Found in Inflammatory Zone). Human resistin contains 108 amino acids as a prepeptide, and its hydrofobic signal peptide is cleaved before its secretion. Resistin circulates in human blood as a dimeric protein consisting of two 92 amino acid polypeptides, which are disulfide-linked via Cys26.
Mouse resistin, specifically produced and secreted by adipocyte, acts on skeletal muscle myocytes, hepatocytes and adipocytes themselves so that it reduces their sensitivity. Steppan et al. have suggested that resistin suppresses the ability to stimulate glucose uptake. They have also suggested that resistin is present at elevated levels in blood of obese mice, and is down regulated by fasting and antidiabetic drugs. Way et al., on the other hand, have found that resistin expression is severly suppressed in obesity and is stimulated by several antidiabetic drugs.
Other studies have shown that mouse resistin increases during the differentiation of adipocytes, but it also seems to inhibit adipogenesis. In contrast, the human adipogenic differentiation is likely to be associated with a down regulation of resistin gene expression.

NUDT21 belongs to the Nudix hydrolase family of pyrophosphatases. Failure of Stratifin expression results in a defective G2/M phase checkpoint and results in epithelial and non-epithelial tumorigenesis.

YWHAH belongs to the 14-3-3 family of proteins which mediate signal transduction by binding to phosphoserine-containing proteins. 14-3-3 ETA is found in plants and mammals, and there is 99% identity to the mouse, rat and bovine orthologs. YWHAH gene contains a 7 base pair repeat sequence in its 5' UTR, and changes in the number of this repeat has been associated with early-onset schizophrenia.
