S100A6 is a member of the S100 family of proteins containing 2 EF-hand calcium-binding motifs. S100 proteins are localized either in the cytoplasm or the nucleus of a wide range of cells. S100 proteins are involved in the regulation of a number of cellular processes such as cell cycle progression and differentiation. There are at least 13 members in the S100 gene family, which are located as a cluster on chromosome 1q21.
S100A6 may function in stimulation of Ca2+-dependent insulin release, stimulation of prolactin secretion, and exocytosis. Chromosomal rearrangements and altered expression of the S100A6 gene are implicated in melanoma.

CRYBB1 is a beta basic group member and undergoes extensive cleavage at its N-terminal extension during lens maturation.

ARF4 belongs to the ARF gene family whose members encode small guanine nucleotide-binding proteins which stimulate the ADP-ribosyltransferase activity of cholera toxin and have a role in vesicular trafficking and as activators of phospholipase D. The ARF proteins include five ARF proteins and eleven ARF-like proteins and constitute one family of the RAS superfamily. They are classified as class I, class II and class III; the ARF4 gene is a class II member. The members of each class share a common gene organization. The mammaglobin gene was first identified using a differential screening approach directed at the isolation of novel, human breast cancer-associated genes. Mammaglobin encodes a 10 kDa glycoprotein and is distantly relaetd to a family of epithelial secretory proteins that includes rat estramustine-binding protein/prostatein and human Clara cell 10 kDa protein (CC10)/uteroglobin. Mammaglobin, a mammary-specific member of the uterglobin family, is known to be overexpressed in human breast cancer. Studies suggest that mammaglobin is one of the first relatively mammary-specific and mammary-sensitive markers (85%). Mammaglobin may be valuable used in a panel with BRST-2 (GCDFP-15) and ER in evaluating tumors of unknown primary sites.

DnaJ (Hsp40) Homolog, Subfamily B, Member 4 (DNAJB4) is a member of the evolutionarily conserved DNAJ/HSP40 protein family. DNAJB4 subunit configuration is homodimer. DNAJB4 possibly functions as a chaperone. DNAJB4 C-terminal section interacts with the C-terminal tail of OPRM1. DNAJB4 also has an interaction with SDIM1. DNAJB4 is expressed in the heart, pancreas and skeletal muscle, and to a lesser extent in the brain, placenta and liver.

One of the diseases associated with NDEL1 is iridocyclitis.

Hsp70-binding protein 1 (HSPBP1) is a member of a family of eukaryotic proteins identified as nucleotide exchange factors for HSP 70 that exhibit varying degrees of compartment and species specificity. HSPBP1 is localized mainly in cytoplasm and nucleus but is also found extracellularly. HSPBP1 is mostly expressed in heart and skeletal muscle .HSPBP1 binds to HSP 70, inhibits its activity and promotes dissociation of nucleotides from the HSP 70 ATPase domain. In addition, HSPBP1 inhibits HSPA1A chaperone activity by changing the conformation of the ATP-binding domain of HSPA1A and obstructing the ATP binding. HSPBP1 may also have a role in tumor (dys)regulation of chaperone proteins. Furthermore, HSPBP1 hinders ubiquitination mediated by STUB1 and inhibits chaperone-assisted degradation of immature CFTR.

Endonuclease 8-like 2 (NEIL2) is a member of a class of DNA glycosylases homologous to the bacterial Fpg/Nei family. These glycosylases set off the first step in base excision repair by cleaving bases damaged by reactive oxygen species and introducing a DNA strand break through the associated lyase reaction. NEIL2 is involved in base excision repair of DNA damaged by oxidation or by mutagenic agents. NEIL2 has DNA glycosylase activity towards 5-hydroxyuracil and other oxidized derivatives of cytosine with a preference for mismatched double stranded DNA (DNA bubbles). NEIL2 has insignificant or undetectable activity with 8-oxoguanine, thymine glycol, 2-hydroxyadenine, hypoxanthine, and xanthine. NEIL2 also has AP (apurinic/apyrimidinic) lyase activity and creates incisions in the DNA strand. NEIL2 cleaves the DNA backbone by beta-delta exclusion to produce a single-strand break at the site of the removed base with both 3'- and 5'-phosphates. NEIL2 is found in the testis, skeletal muscle, heart, brain, placenta, lung, pancreas, kidney and liver.

FABP12 is a member of the calycin superfamily and fatty-acid binding protein (FABP) family. The FABPs are a family of carrier proteins for fatty acids and other lipophilic substances for example eicosanoids and retinoids. These proteins are believed to enable the transfer of fatty acids between extra- and intracellular membranes. FABP12 has a role in lipid transport. FABP12 is expressed in several retinoblastoma cell lines. FABP12 has not been detected in fetal tissues.

Fatty acid binding proteins (FABPs) are a family of small, highly conserved, cytoplasmic proteins that bind long-chain fatty acids and other hydrophobic ligands. FABPs are are inovlved in fatty acid uptake, transport, and metabolism. FABP7 is expressed in radial glia by the activation of Notch receptors and binds DHA with the highest affinity among all of FABPs. FABP7 plays an important role in transport of hydrophobic ligand with potential morphogenic activity during cns development. FABP7 is required for the establishment of the radial glial fiber system in developing brain, a system that is necessary for the migration of immature neurons to establish cortical layers (by similarity).
