F-Box Protein 2 (FBXO2) is a part of the F-box protein family. The F-box proteins are one of the 4 subunits of the ubiquitin protein ligase complex called SCFs (SKP1-cullin-F-box), which takes part in phosphorylation-dependent ubiquitination. The F-box proteins are divided into 3 classes. FBXO2 belongs to the Fbxs class which contains either different protein-protein interaction modules or no recognizable motifs. FBXO2 is extremely similar to the rat neural F Box 42 kDa protein which is enriched in the nervous system and plays a role in maintaining neurons in a postmitotic state.

Prion protein (PRNP) is a ubiquitous membrane glycoprotein whose abnormal self-replicating, misfolded form is widely believed to cause several central nervous system disorders, together known as Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (TSE). PRNP contains a highly unstable region of five tandem octapeptide repeat. Mutations in PRNP protein’s repeat region as well as elsewhere have been associated with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, fatal familial insomnia, Gerstmann-Straussler disease, Huntington disease-like 1, and kuru.

CETN1 is an EF-hand type Ca2+-binding protein. CETN1 is localized to the centrosome of interphase cells, and reorganizes the region of the spindle poles during mitosis, reflecting the dynamic behavior of the centrosome during the cell cycle. CETN1 has a vital part in the determination of centrosome position and isolation, and in the course of microtubule separating.

Progesterone-Associated Endometrial Protein (PAEP) is a member of the kernel lipocalin super family whose members share rather low sequence similarity but have highly conserved exon/intron structure and three-dimensional protein folding. Most lipocalins are clustered on the long arm of chromosome 9. PAEP protein has been previously referred to as pregnancy-associated endometrial alpha-2-globulin, placental protein 14, and glycodelin.

CDC123 is a member of the CDC123 family. CDC123is required for S phase entry of the cell cycle. It is also broadly expressed in spleen,thymus, prostate, testis, ovary, small intestine, colon and leukocytes with the uppermost expression in testis.

NDRG1 is a cytoplasmic protein that is involved in stress responses, hormone responses, cell growth, and differentiation. NDRG1 is one of 4 members of the NDRG ?/?-hydrolase family. NDRG1 is classified in databases as a tumor suppressor and heavy metal-response protein. NDRG1’s functions include cell-cycle regulation, cellular differentiation, apoptosis, hypoxia response and metal-ion sensing. NDRG1 is also essential for p53-mediated caspase activation and apoptosis. The NDRG1 is a Rab4a effector that is involved in vesicular recycling of E-cadherin. NDRG1 is ubiquitous; it is expressed most notably in placental membranes and prostate, kidney, small intestine, and ovary tissues. NDRG1 has reduced expression in adenocarcinomas compared to normal tissues.
NDRG1 gene mutations are reported to be the cause for hereditary motor and sensory neuropathy-Lom (HMSNL), which is a severe autosomal recessive form of Charcot- Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease. In addition, decreased NDRG1 expression in glioma is linked to tumor progression. On the other hand, overexpression of NDRG1 is connected to malignant status of esophageal cancer. NDRG1 may also have a role in portal vein invasion and intrahepatic metastasis in human hepatocellular carcinoma.

SLPI is a secreted inhibitor which guards epithelial tissues from serine proteases. SLPI is localized in various secretions including seminal plasma, cervical mucus, and bronchial secretions, and has affinity for trypsin, leukocyte elastase, and cathepsin G. SLPI inhibitory effect contributes to the immune response by protecting epithelial surfaces from attack by endogenous proteolytic enzymes. SLPI protein has broad-spectrum anti-biotic activity. SLPI is an acid-stable proteinase inhibitor with strong affinities for trypsin, chymotrypsin, elastase, and cathepsin G. SLPI prevents elastase-mediated damage to oral and mucosal tissues.

Four and a half LIM domains 3 (FHL3) belongs to a family of proteins containing a four-and-a-half LIM domain, which is a highly conserved double zinc finger motif. FHL3 has been shown to interact with the cancer developmental regulators SMAD2, SMAD3, and SMAD4, the skeletal muscle myogenesis protein MyoD, and the high-affinity IgE beta chain regulator MZF-1. FHL3 is involved in tumor suppression, repression of MyoD expression, and repression of IgE receptor expression. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.

N-myc-interactor belongs to the oncogene Myc family which has a significant part in cell proliferation, differentiation, and neoplastic transformation. In Addition, NMI cooperates with all STATs except STAT2 and augments STAT-mediated transcription in response to cytokines IL2 and IFN-gamma. The NMI mRNA is expressed in small quantities in all human fetal and adult tissues tested except brain and but in large quantities in cancer cell line-myeloid leukemias.

The 14-3-3 family of proteins plays a key regulatory role in signal transduction, checkpoint control, apoptotic and nutrient-sensing pathways. 14-3-3 proteins are highly conserved and ubiquitously expressed. There are at least seven isoforms that have been identified in mammals. The 14-3-3gamma, a subtype of the 14-3-3 family of proteins, was thought to be brain and neuron-specific. It has been shown to interact with RAF1 and protein kinase C, proteins involved in various signal transduction pathways.

Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein A1 (HNRNPA1) is a member of the A/B subfamily of ubiquitously expressed heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs). HNRNPA1 is involved in the packing of pre-mRNA into hnRNP particles, transport of poly(A) mRNA from the nucleus to the cytoplasm and may control splice site selection. The HNRNPA1 protein may also have a role in HCV RNA replication. In addition, HNRNPA1 is believed to have a key role in the formation of specific myometrial protein species in parturition.
The hnRNP proteins have distinctive nucleic acid binding properties. HNRNPA1 has 2 repeats of quasi-RRM domains that bind to RNAs. HNRNPA1 is one of the most copious core proteins of hnRNP complexes and it is restricted to the nucleoplasm. The HNRNPA1 protein, along with other hnRNP proteins, is exported from the nucleus, most likely bound to mRNA, and is immediately re-imported. The M9 domain of HNRNPA1 functions as both a nuclear localization and nuclear export signal.

The P34 protein is the main allergen for soybean sensitive humans. Soybean protein P34, a thiol protease belonging to the papain family, is a monomeric allergen having an N-terminal amino acid sequence and amino acid composition identical to that of the seed 34kDa protein. It is an insoluble glycoprotein having a pI of 4.5 and a calculated mass of 28.643 Dalton, representing 2–3% of total soybean protein. Upon glycosylation, the mass will be somewhat larger, resulting in a ~32kDa band in non-reduced SDS PAGE gels. It exhibits no enzymatic function due to an absence of the catalytic cysteine. P34 is stored in storage vacuoles of soybean cotyledons.

There are 7 isoforms, beta, gamma, epsilon, sigma, zeta, tau and eta that have been identified in mammals. Stratifin is an epithelial cell marker that functions as a tumor suppressor whose expression can be down regulated via methylation. Failure of Stratifin expression results in a defective G2/M phase checkpoint and results in epithelial and non-epithelial tumorigenesis.

Relaxin-3 (RLN3) belongs to the relaxin family. Relaxins are endocrine and autocrine/paracrine hormones. Relaxin, which is produced by the ovary, targets the mammalian reproductive system to ripen the cervix, elongate the pubic symphysis and inhibit uterine contraction. Unlike human Relaxins 1 and 2, Relaxin 3 does not seem to have a role in reproduction; however it is involved in stress response in the brain stem. RLN3 is the only known ligand for the G-protein-coupled receptor GPCR135, titled RXFP3. In addition, RLN3 binds the LGR7 (RXFP1) receptor, however with lower affinity than Relaxin-2. Even though binding of RLN3 to LGR7 increases intracellular cAMP, binding to GPCR135 suppresses cAMP accumulation, indicating coupling to Gi, Go, or Gz by this receptor.

Myoglobin is a member of the globin superfamily and can be found in skeletal and cardiac muscles. It is a haemoprotein that contributs to intracellular oxygen storage and transcellular facilitated diffusion of oxygen. Myoglobin has a single-chain globular structure of 153 amino acids, containing a heme prosthetic group (iron-containing porphyrin) in the core around which the remaining apoprotein folds. Myoglobin has 8 alpha helices and a hydrophobic core. Myoglobin’s molecular weight is 16.7 kDa, and it is the primary oxygen-carrying pigment of muscle tissues. The binding of oxygen in myoglobin is different from the cooperative oxygen binding in hemoglobin, since positive collaboration is a property of multimeric/oligomeric proteins only. Instead, the binding of oxygen by myoglobin is uninfluenced by the oxygen pressure in the surrounding tissue. Myoglobin is frequently referred to as having an "instant binding tenacity" to oxygen given its hyperbolic oxygen dissociation curve. Different organisms are able to hold their breaths longer due to high concentrations of myoglobin in their muscle cells. Myoglobin is responsible for the pigments that make meat red. The color of the meat is partly determined by the charge of the iron atom in myoglobin and the oxygen attached to it. Myoglobin is found in Type I muscle, Type II A and Type II B, but it is mostly deemed that myoglobin is not found in smooth muscle. Myoglobin is discharged from damaged muscle tissue (rhabdomyolysis), which contains very high concentrations of myoglobin. Even though the released myoglobin is filtered by the kidneys, it is toxic to the renal tubular epithelium and thus may cause acute renal failure.

DYNLT3 belongs to a subclass of dynein light chains. The DYNLT3 protein homodimerizes and forms the light chain component of the cytoplasmic dynein motor protein complex. DYNLT3 functions as one of several non-catalytic accessory components of the cytoplasmic dynein 1 complex which are believed to be involved in linking dynein to cargos and to adapter proteins that regulate dynein function. DYNLT3 may also work independently of dynein as a transcriptional modulator. DYNLT3 is required for the effective progression through mitosis.

Chromosome 10 Open Reading Frame 54, also known as C10ORF54 is part of the immunoglobulin superfamily. Like a transmembrane molecule, C10ORF54 is expressed in the bone on embryonic stem cells (ESCs), and on tumor cell surface as well. Accordingly, C10ORF54 supports the differentiation of ESC and ehhances BMP4 induced signaling in ESC, however C10ORF54 is also down regulated following to BMP4 exposure.

60S ribosome subunit biogenesis protein NIP7 homolog (NIP7) belongs to NIP7 family and contains 1 PUA domain. NIP7 interacts with pre-ribosome complex and may bind to RNA. NIP7 is vital for proper 27S pre-rRNA processing and 60S ribosome subunit assembly.

MYC Induced Nuclear Antigen, also known as MINA is an oxygenase which can function both as a histone lysine demethylase and a ribosomal histidine hydroxylase. MINA is involved in the demethylation of trimethylated Lys-9 on histone H3 (H3K9me3), leading to an increase in ribosomal RNA expression. MINA also catalyzes the hydroxylation of 60S ribosomal protein L27a on His-39. In addition, MINA plays a significant role in cell growth and survival. MINA is implicated in ribosome biogenesis, probably in the duration of the assembly process of pre-ribosomal particles.

Mediator Complex Subunit 20 (MED20) is a subunit of the Mediator complex, which is a multiprotein coactivator of RNA transcription that interacts with DNA-bound transcriptional activators, RNA polymerase II, and general initiation factors. The Mediator functions as a link to transmit information from gene-specific regulatory proteins to the basal RNA polymerase II transcription apparatus. Mediator is recruited to promoters by direct interactions with regulatory proteins and functions as a scaffold for the compilation of a functional preinitiation complex with RNA polymerase II and the general transcription factors.

Peptidase Inhibitor 3, also referred to PI3, is neutrophil and pancreatic elastase-specific inhibitor of skin. The protein may prevent elastase mediated tissue proteolysis. PI3 has shown inhibition of alpha-4-beta-2/CHRNA2-CHRNB2 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor, a weak inhibition on Kv11.1/KCNH2/ERG1 and on the transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily V member 1.

SNRPB is one of several nuclear proteins which are found in common among U1, U2, U4/U6, and U5 small ribonucleoprotein particles (snRNPs). These snRNPs are involved in pre-mRNA splicing, and the SNRPB protein may also have a role in pre-mRNA splicing or snRNP structure. SNRPB binds to the downstream cleavage product (DCP) of histone pre-mRNA in a U7 snRNP dependent manner. SNRPB functions in the U7 snRNP complex which is involved in histone 3'-end processing.
