RAN is a GTP-binding protein that participates in nucleocytoplasmic transport. RAN is necessary for the import of protein into the nucleus and also for RNA export. RAN takes part in chromatin condensation and control of cell cycle. The RAN complex with BIRC5 participates in mitotic spindle formation by being as a physical scaffold to assist the delivery of the RAN effector molecule TPX2 to microtubules. RUN increases AR-mediated transactivation.

The ribosomal phosphoproteins, also called P protein antigens, are associated with the large ribosomal subunit and therefore are antigenic targets with a cytoplasmic localization. Three P proteins have been described: P0 with a molecular weight of 35 kDa, P1 (19 kDa) and P2 (17 kDa). RPLP0 is a ribosomal protein that is a component of the 60S subunit. RPLP0 belongs to the L10P family of ribosomal proteins. RPLP0 is a neutral phosphoprotein having a C-terminal end that is nearly identical to the C-terminal ends of the acidic ribosomal phosphoproteins P1 & P2. The P0 protein interacts with P1 and P2 to form a pentameric complex consisting of P1 and P2 dimers, and a P0 monomer. As is typical for genes encoding ribosomal proteins, there are multiple processed pseudogenes of RPLP0 scattered throughout the genome.
Autoantibodies against ribosomal P proteins are present in 10 % of SLE patients. If anti-ribosomal P antibodies were to occur in the absence of other typical SLE associated autoantibodies, they may account for some patients with so-called ANA-negative lupus. It has been reported that lupus patients positive for anti-ribosomal P autoantibodies have a high frequency of CNS involvement, suggesting a marker use for these antibodies.

Ribosomal Protein S20 (RPS20) encodes a ribosomal protein which is a component of the 40S subunit. RPS20, which is located in the cytoplasm, is a part of the S10P family of ribosomal proteins. RPS20 is co-transcribed with the small nucleolar RNA gene U54, which is located in its second intron. There are multiple processed pseudogenes of RPS20 dispersed through the genome as typical for genes encoding ribosomal proteins.

PPCDC is a member of the HFCD (homo oligomeric flavin containing Cys decarboxylase) superfamily which takes a part in the biosynthesis of coenzyme A (CoA) from pantothenate (Vitamin B). The biosynthesis of CoA from pantothenate needs several steps: the phosphorylation of pantothenate, the conversion of 4’-hosphopantothenate to 4''-phosphopantetheine, the adenylation by phosphopantetheine adenylyltransferase to form dephospho-CoA and the phosphorylation by dephospho-CoA kinase to form CoA. PPCDC is a key player in this pathway. PPCDC converts 4''-phosphopantothenate into 4''-phosphopantetheine.

SEMG1 is the predominant protein in semen. The secreted protein takes part in the formation of a gel matrix which encases ejaculated spermatozoa. The prostate-specific antigen (PSA) protease processes SEMG1 into smaller peptides, with each possibly having a separate function. The proteolysis process breaks down the gel matrix and allows the spermatozoa to shift more freely. 2 transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for SEMG1.

Bestrophin 1 (BEST1) is a part of the bestrophin gene family and is also forms calcium-activated chloride-ion channels in epithelial. This small gene family is characterized by proteins with a highly conserved N-terminus with 4-6 transmembrane domains. BEST1 is extremely permeable to bicarbonate.

FABP1 (Fatty acid binding protein1) encodes the fatty acid binding protein found in liver. FABP1 is composed of ten antiparallel beta strands that form a barrel with a bigger binding pocket than the other FABPs allowing it to accommodate two fatty acid. This protein binds free fatty acids and their coenzyme A derivatives, bilirubin, and some other small molecules in the cytoplasm; it may be involved in intracellular lipid transport and metabolism.

Rat and mouse FGF-9 show a very high homology to human FGF-9. The transcripts for FGF-9 have been found in brain and in kidney tissue. Fibroblast Growth Factor-9 is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family. FGF family members possess broad mitogenic and cell survival activities, and are involved in a variety of biological processes, including embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth and invasion. Folate Receptor 1, also known as FOLR1, is a part of the folate receptor family whose members bind folic acid. FOLR1 binds to folate and reduced folic acid derivatives and facilitates transfer of 5-methyltetrahydrofolate and folate analogs into the cells. FOLR1 is either attaches to membranes through a glycosyl-phosphatidylinositol linkage or exists in a soluble form. FOLR1 is also needed for embryonic development and normal cell proliferation.

Interleukin-17 receptor A isoform 1 (IL17RA) is a cytokine receptor which binds interleukin 17. IL17RA is a potent inducer of the maturation of CD34-positive hematopoietic precursors into neutrophils. IL17RA is a type 1 membrane glycoprotein which binds with low affinity to interleukin 17A. The IL17RA protein and Interleukin 17A has a pathogenic role in many inflammatory and autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis.

HMGB1 is an abundant chromatin-binding protein found in eukaryotic cell nucleus and acts in the assembly of nucleoprotein complexes. Inside the cell, HMGB1 binds to DNA and is involved in transcriptional regulation. Outside the cell, HMGB1 acts as a cytokine with activities that resemble those of tumor necrosis factor (TNF). Overexpression of HMGB1 is common in gastrointestinal stromal tumors and is related to the KIT mutation. HMG1 induces growth inhibition and apoptosis in macrophages through RAGE intracellular signaling pathway. The increase of extracellular HMGB1 observed in salivary glands of Sjogren's syndrome patients indicates that HMGB-1 is involved in the inflammatory process of the disease. HMGB-1 together with estrogen increase cell cycle progression in tumor cell lines.
