    • Introduction

Death effector domain-containing protein (DEDD) is a cytoplasmic protein. The cell death activity of DEDD relates to its nuclear localization. DEDD translocates to the nucleus during CD95-mediated apoptosis, there it localizes to nucleoli-like structures, activates caspase-6 and particularly inhibits RNA polymerase I-dependent transcription. DEDD is usually expressed in a variety of tissues, and found in the highest levels in the testis. Overexpression of DEDD was shown to induce weak apoptosis.

    • Synonyms

      CASP8IP1, DEDD1, DEFT, FLDED1, KE05, DEDPro1, Death effector domain-containing testicular molecule.

    • Introduction

Small nuclear ribonucleoprotein polypeptide G (SNRPG) is a member of the snRNP Sm proteins family. There are at least 7 isoforms, B/B, E, F, G, D1, D2, and D3. This class of common proteins has a vital role in the biogenesis of the snRNPs. The human Sm G genes are mapped to chromosomes 2. Furthermore, these proteins represent the major targets for the supposed anti-Sm auto-antibodies which are diagnostic for SLE (systemic lupus erythematosus). One class of these autoantibodies reacts specifically with native Sm E-F-G complexes.

    • Introduction

Wheat Gliadin and related gluten components from barley, rye and possibly oats can cause an abnormal immune response called Celiac disease which is a chronic gastrointestinal disorder. Celiac disease characteristics are flattening of the jejunal mucosa and intestinal lesions of variable severity in hereditarily inclined individuals. Even though Celiac disease is not a classic autoimmune disease it is related to anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies and gliadin antibodies tests are most recommended in screening populations at risk for CD and other gluten-sensitive enteropathies. In the past, serologic tests for gliadin antibodies usually were not very precise and were not enough for accurate diagnosis due to missing deamidated epitopes within the authentic gliadin fraction traditionally used in diagnostic test kits. ProSpec's deamidated Gliadin isoform matches to the deamidated neo-epitopes, which in the natural antigen are formed by transglutaminase-mediated glutamine side chain deamidation.

    • Introduction

Inhibitor of Growth Family, Member 2 (ING2) belongs to the inhibitor of growth (ING) family. ING family members associate with and modulate the activity of histone acetyltransferase (HAT) and histone deacetylase (HDAC) complexes and serve in DNA repair and apoptosis. ING2 appears to be involved in p53/TP53 activation and p53/TP53-dependent apoptotic pathways, most likely by enhancing acetylation of p53/TP53. ING2 is a component of an mSin3A-like corepressor complex, which is probably involved in deacetylation of nucleosomal histones. ING2 activity is modulated by binding to phosphoinositides (PtdInsPs).

    • Background

Desmin, an intermediate filament protein, plays a fundamental role in maintaining the structural integrity and function of muscle cells. While extensive research has been conducted on desmin in mammals, the study of desmin in chickens is an emerging area with considerable potential for advancing our understanding of muscle biology. Chickens are valuable model organisms for studying muscle development, growth, and regeneration due to their relatively simple muscular system and economic significance in poultry production. This research aims to provide a comprehensive exploration of desmin in chickens, shedding light on its functions and implications for muscle structure and function.

The primary objective of this research is to elucidate the role of desmin in chicken muscle structure and development. In vitro and in vivo experiments, utilizing chicken cell cultures and embryonic models, will be conducted to investigate how desmin contributes to the organization of muscle fibers, sarcomere assembly, and myofibrillogenesis. Understanding these mechanisms is fundamental for deciphering the complexities of muscle development in chickens.

The second objective is to assess the clinical and economic relevance of desmin in poultry production. Studies involving broiler chickens will be conducted to evaluate the impact of desmin mutations or variations on muscle growth, meat quality, and disease susceptibility. These investigations may provide valuable insights into potential strategies for enhancing poultry production efficiency and meat quality.

The third objective is to explore the potential applications of desmin in biotechnology and tissue engineering. Research will investigate the use of desmin-expressing chicken cells as models for studying muscle-related diseases and for developing tissue engineering approaches for muscle repair and regeneration.

By delving into the functions and roles of desmin in chickens, this research aims to expand our knowledge of muscle biology, its implications for poultry production, and its potential applications in biotechnology and regenerative medicine.

    • Introduction

ACTN1 encodes a nonmuscle, cytoskeletal, alpha actinin isoform and maps to the same site as the structurally similar erythroid beta spectrin gene. Alpha actinins belong to the spectrin gene superfamily which represents a diverse group of cytoskeletal proteins, including the alpha and beta spectrins and dystrophins. Alpha actinin is an actin-binding protein with multiple roles in different cell types. In nonmuscle cells, the cytoskeletal isoform is found along microfilament bundles and adherens-type junctions, where it is involved in binding actin to the membrane. In contrast, skeletal, cardiac, and smooth muscle isoforms are localized to the Z-disc and analogous dense bodies, where they help anchor the myofibrillar actin filaments.

    • Introduction

Thioredoxins are small disulphide-containing redox proteins (within the conserved Cys-Gly-Pro-Cys active site) that have been found in all the kingdoms of living organisms. Thioredoxin contains a single disulfide active site and serves as a general protein disulphide oxidoreductase. Thioredoxins are involved in the first unique step in DNA synthesis. It interacts with a broad range of proteins by a redox mechanism based on reversible oxidation of two cysteine thiol groups to a disulphide, accompanied by the transfer of two electrons and two protons. The net result is the covalent interconversion of a disulphide and a dithiol. Trx also provides control over a number of transcription factors affecting cell proliferation and death through a mechanism referred to as redox regulation. It has been suggested that thioredoxin may catalyze the formation of correct disulfides during protein folding because of its ability to act as an efficient oxidoreductant. This could be especially useful in

    • Introduction

rGFP, also known as Green Fluorescent Protein, is a protein produced by the jellyfish (Aequorea Victoria) that produces bioluminescence in the green zone of the noticeable spectrum. Green Fluorescent Protein is a useful and ubiquitous instrument for producing chimeric proteins, where it functions as a fluorescent protein tag. rGFP is expressed in most known cell types and is used as a noninvasive fluorescent marker in living cells and organisms. Green Fluorescent Protein permits a broad range of applications where it has functioned as a cell lineage tracer, reporter of gene expression, or as a measure of protein-protein interactions.
