Hematological and neurological expressed 1 protein (HN1) is a small protein which is extremely preserved among species. HN1 expression is upregulated in regenerating neural tissues, including the axotomized adult rodent facial motor nerve and dedifferentiating retinal pigment epithelial cells of the Japanese newt. HN1 is also expressed in several tissues during embryonic development as well as in regions of the adult brain which display high plasticity.

HOXB13 is a transcription factor and a member of the homeobox gene family which are extremely conserved in vertebrates and vital for vertebrate embryonic development. DnaJ (Hsp40) Homolog, Subfamily B, Member 4 (DNAJB4) is a member of the evolutionarily conserved DNAJ/HSP40 protein family. DNAJB4 subunit configuration is homodimer. DNAJB4 possibly functions as a chaperone. DNAJB4 C-terminal section interacts with the C-terminal tail of OPRM1. DNAJB4 also has an interaction with SDIM1. DNAJB4 is expressed in the heart, pancreas and skeletal muscle, and to a lesser extent in the brain, placenta and liver.

DnaJ (Hsp40) Homolog, Subfamily C, Member 12 (DNAJC12) belongs to the DnaJ/Hsp40 family. DnaJ/Hsp40 family members are linked with complex assembly, protein folding, and export. DnaJ/Hsp40 proteins are extremely conserved throughout evolution and function as co-chaperones regulating protein folding, transport, translational initiation and gene expression. DnaJC12 has a role in protein folding and export and is believed to be involved in estrogen control and the development of breast cancer. DNAJC12 is expressed at high levels in the brain, heart, and testis, and at reduced levels in the kidney and stomach.

NDE1 is a cytoplasmic protein which is a member of the nudE protein family. Phosphorylated during mitosis, NDE1 is critical for the formation and function of the mitotic spindle in M phase and functions to regulate the Dynein-mediated transport of kinetochore proteins, as well as centrosome duplication during interphase. NDE1 is believed to interact with NDEL1, LIS1 and Dynein IC1/2, cytosolic in a signaling pathway which regulates the formation of neurons and is fundamental to the development of the cerebral cortex.
