Cytokeratin 14 is a member of the keratin family, the most diverse group of intermediate filaments. HAAO is a monomeric cytosolic protein which is a member of intramolecular dioxygenases family containing nonheme ferrous iron. The HAAO protein catalyzes the synthesis of quinolinic acid (QUIN) from 3-hydroxyanthranilic acid. QUIN is an excitotoxin whose toxicity is facilitated by its ability to activate glutamate N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors. The CTH catalyzes the last step in the transsulfuration pathway from methionine to cysteine. Glutathione synthesis in the liver is dependent upon the availability of cysteine. Osteostat does not inhibit lipopolysaccharide-induced RANK expression in monocytes and dendritic cells, or activation-induced RANK expression in T cells. Osteostat is a novel regulator of osteoclast generation and substantiate the major role played by the endothelium in bone physiology.
