Trypanosoma Cruzi B13

Among the numerous antigens that T. cruzi expresses, the B13 protein has been identified as a main component involved in immune recognition and host-parasite interactions. Trypanosoma Cruzi B13 is a very immunogenic antigen found in the T. cruzi epimastigote and trypomastigote forms. Trypanosoma Cruzi B13 takes part in host-parasite interactions first by binding to host cells such as cardiac and smooth muscle cells, which are very important in the pathology of Chagas disease. Trypanosoma cruzi is the protozoan parasite responsible for Chagas disease which affects millions of people in Latin America. The parasite has a complex life cycle and eludes the immune response through various mechanisms, making it a complex target for therapeutic interventions.
