About FBXO / F-Box Protein:

F-Box Protein is constructed from approximately fifty amino acids that function together to create a site of protein-protein interactions. Currently, there is limited knowledge of the organization around the genes encoding F-Box proteins.
F-Box initially was classified within the region of homology. However, it wasn’t until years later that it was recognized F-Box was actually a motif that is required to support protein-protein interaction. Its motif can be mostly found within the amino-terminal half of proteins and can be paired with carboxy-terminal motifs usually. It now is seen as to commonly exist within proteins now and in particular with other protein-protein interaction motifs.

FBXO Sequence
The F-Box has approximately 50 residues within its motif. Within this sequence, there are few invariant positions and even fewer variable positions. Due to the lack of concession, it can make identifying F-Box characteristics difficult by eye. In many cases, an algorithm is required to detect and identify F-Box characteristics. Although even with this measure in place it is advisable to use more than one algorithm as differences in results have been known.

F-Box Protein Function
F-Box proteins have been associated with cellular function. These functions include signal transduction and the regulations of the cell cycle. Many F-Box proteins are represented in the gene networks. In many plants, F-Box proteins are used for vegetation and reproductive growth and development.
The different levels of F-Box Protein can be regulated and controlled by different mechanisms. Protein degradation has been linked to changes in its regulation along with associating it with SCF complex.
