Dynein Light Chain

DYNLT3 belongs to a subclass of dynein light chains. The DYNLT3 protein homodimerizes and forms the light chain component of the cytoplasmic dynein motor protein complex. DYNLT3 functions as one of several non-catalytic accessory components of the cytoplasmic dynein 1 complex which are believed to be involved in linking dynein to cargos and to adapter proteins that regulate dynein function. DYNLT3 may also work independently of dynein as a transcriptional modulator. DYNLT3 is required for the effective progression through mitosis.

Dynein light chain Tctex-type 1 (DYNLT1) is a member of the dynein light chain Tctex-type family. DYNLT1 is a dynein light chain involved in cargo binding. DYNLT1 acts as one of several non-catalytic accessory components of the cytoplasmic dynein 1 complex which are believed to be involved in linking dynein to cargos and to adapter proteins that regulate dynein function. Cytoplasmic dynein is a key motor protein complex responsible for minus-end, microtubule-based motile processes. Each dynein complex consists of two heavy chains which have ATPase and motor activities, as well as a group of accessory polypeptides.

Dynein light chain roadblock-type 2 (DYNLRB2) functions as one of several non-catalytic accessory components of the cytoplasmic dynein complex which are considered to be involved in linking dynein to cargos and to adapter proteins that regulate dynein function. Cytoplasmic dynein functions as a motor for the intracellular retrograde motility of vesicles and organelles along microtubules.

Dynein light chain roadblock-type (DYNLRB1) belongs to the roadblock dynein light chain family and encodes a cytoplasmic protein which is capable of binding intermediate chain proteins. Upregulation of the DYNLRB1 gene is linked with hepatocellular carcinomas, suggesting that DYNLRB1 may be involved in tumor progression.

Dyneins are multi-subunit, high molecular weight ATPases which cooperate with microtubules to create energy by altering the chemical energy of ATP into the mechanical energy of movement. DYNLL2 is a large protein complex made up of six different subunits and is in charge of a large number of intracellular movements to the minus ends of microtubules. DYNLL2 is an extremely conserved eukaryotic hub protein with dozens of binding partners and numerous roles other than being a subunit of dynein and myosin Va motor proteins.

DYNLL1 is a protein that cooperates with NOS1 causing NOS1 inhibition. Binding of DYNLL1 weakens NOS1 (Neuronal nitric oxide synthase) dimer, a conformation needed for activity, and it regulates several biologic processes through its effects on nitric oxide synthase activity. DYNLL1 is a ubiquitously expressed protein that demonstrates high expression in testis and moderate expression in brain.

Dynein Axonemal Light Intermediate Chain1 also known as DNALI1 belongs to the inner dynein arm light chain family. DNALI1 take a dynamic role in flagellar motility. DNALI1 is the human homolog of the Chlamydomonas inner dynein arm gene, p28. The exactfunction of DNALI1 is not known yet, on the other hand, it is a potential candidate for immotile cilia syndrome. In addition it has been found that the following diseases: primary ciliary dyskinesia, and huntington's disease have been associated with DNALI1. Ultrastructural defects of the inner dynein arms are seen in patients with ICS. Immotile mutant strains ofChlamydomonas, biflagellated algae, show similar defects.

DNAL4 is a member of the dynein light chain family. DNAL4 is a component of the dynein motor complex in cells that converts the chemical energy contained in ATP into the mechanical energy of movement. Dynein transports various cellular cargos by moving the length of cytoskeletal microtubules towards the minus-end of the microtubule, which is typically oriented towards the cell center.

Dynein Axonemal Light Chain 1 (DNAL1) functions as a component of the outer dynein arms complex. DNAL1 acts as the molecular motor which supplies the force to move cilia in an ATP-dependent manner. DNAL1 is expressed in tissues with motile cilia or flagella and takes part in the movement of sperm flagella. Alternate splicing results in numerous transcript variants.
