About CHMP / Charged Multivesicular Body Protein:

CHMP is a term that stands for chromatin-modifying protein/charged multivesicular body protein. There are a number of different types of charged multivesicular body protein that belong to this family. CHMP can be separated into the following: CHMP1A, CHMP1B, CHMP2A, CHMP2B, CHMP4A, CHMP4B, CHMP4C, CHMP5, CHMP6.

CHMP family
All of the proteins that are mentioned above belong to the CHMP family. These are all proteins that are components of the endosomal sorting complex required for transport III. This is a complex that is incorporated in surface receptor protein degradation and endocytic multivesicular bodies (MVBs) formation.
There are some chromatin-modifying protein/charged multivesicular body proteins that have both cytoplasmic/vesicular and nuclear distributions. CHMP1a is one of these, and we will reveal a bit more about it below. CHMP1a is needed for both the regulation of the progression of the cell cycle and the formation of MVB.

CHMP1a
CHMP1a is also known as chromatin-modifying protein 1A or charged multivesicular body protein 1a. This is part of the ESCRT-111 Complex, which is needed for endosome-mediated trafficking through the multivesicular body (MVB) sorting and formation.
Not only is it a part of the complex ESCRT-111 but it is also deciphered as being a nuclear matric protein that impacts cell-cycle progression and chromatin structure. It can act as a suppressor to tumours within humans.
