About CRABP / Cellular Retinoic Acid Binding Protein:
Cellular retinoic acid binding protein, also known as CRABP, is a protein found in human beings. It is believed to play an important role in the proliferation process of retinoid acid, and this makes it an important protein.
CRABP Function
CRABPs may well regulate the access of retinoic acid to the nuclear retinoic acid receptors. The protein is structurally similar to other retinol binding proteins, but this one specifically functions by binding retinoic acid.
At the most basic level, CRABP1 functions by binding to retinoid acid and helping in its transportation to the nucleus. CRABP1 activates the ERK1 and ERK2 kinases, which play a massive role in the cell cycle process. As such, CRABP1 can actively extend and increase the cell cycle.
Cellular Retinoic Acid Binding Protein Regulation
The protein has also been found to have a positive effect on reducing or destroying cancerous cells. For instance, CRABP1 regulating and activating ERK1 & 2 activates protein phosphatase 2a (PP2A), which can help induce the shrinkage and death of cancer cells, as well as improving and lengthening the cell cycle of stem cells.
