PRS is a complex with 2 catalytic subunits and 2 associated subunits. PRPSAP2 encodes a non-catalytic associated subunit of PRS.

Protease Serine 22 also known as Prss22 is identified brain-specific expression gene which is expressed mainly in epitheliumrich tissues such as the lung and eye. Prss22 encodes to a serine protease which called BSSP-4 or BSP-2.

Prss28 shows mixed substrate specificity which silences signaling through proteinase-activated receptors. It is active on peptide linkages involving the carboxyl group of lysine or arginine. PRSS3 is restricted to the locus of T cell receptor beta variable orphans on chromosome 9. 4 different isoforms encoded by 4 transcript variants were identified for this gene.
