CCAAT/enhancer binding protein(C/EBP) g is a family of transcription factors all contain a highly conserved, basic-leucine zipper domain at the C-terminus that is involved in dimerization and DNA binding. C/EBP family of transcription factors regulates viral and cellular CCAAT/enhancer element-mediated transcription. C/EBP family consist of several related proteins, C/EBP a,b,g,d, that form homodimers and/or form heterodimers with each other. C/EBP proteins contain the bZIP region, which is characterized by two motifs in the C-terminal half of the protein; a basic region involved in DNA binding and a leucine zipper motif involved in dimerization. C/EBP g may cooperate with Fos to bind PRE- enhancer elements.

CEBPB is an intronless gene and its protein is a bZIP transcription factor which can bind as a homodimer to certain DNA regulatory regions. CEBPB can also form heterodimers with the related proteins CEBP-alpha, CEBP-delta, and CEBP-gamma. CEBPB is important in the regulation of genes involved in immune and inflammatory responses and has been shown to bind to the IL-1 response element in the IL-6 gene, as well as to regulatory regions of several acute-phase and cytokine genes. In addition, CEBPB can bind the promoter and upstream element and stimulate the expression of the collagen type I gene.

Cytoplasmic Polyadenylation Element Binding Protein 1 (CPEB1) belongs to the cytoplasmic polyadenylation element (CPE) binding protein family, whose members regulate translation of cyclin B1 during embryonic cell divisions. The CPEB1 is a highly conserved protein which binds to a specific RNA sequence called the CPE found in the 3' UTR of some mRNAs. Analogous proteins in Xenopus and mouse function to stimulate cytoplasmic polyadenylation of dormant mRNAs with short polyA tails, resulting in their translation.

Currently, 9 centromere proteins are known and designated CENPA to CENP-I. Most of the centromere proteins are targets of autoantibodies, the anti-centromere antibodies.
CENPB is the most important of the centromeric autoantigens: it has a molecular weight of approx. 66 kDa and plays an important role in the formation of the centromeric chromatin. CENPB antibodies are present in the sera of up to 80% of patients with CREST syndrome.

TCEB1 (elongin C) is a subunit of elongin, which is a common transcription elongation factor that increases the RNA polymerase II transcription elongation past template encoded arresting sites. The SIII complex is comprised of elongins A/A2, B and C. The SIII complex activates elongation by RNA polymerase II by curbing transient pausing of the polymerase at numerous sites within transcription units. Elongin A acts as the transcriptionally active component of the SIII complex, while elongins B and C are regulatory subunits. Elongin A2 is specifically expressed in the testis, and able to forming a stable complex with elongins B and C. The VHL (von Hippel-Lindau) tumor suppressor protein binds to elongins B and C, and thus inhibits transcription elongation.

MYCBP is a member of the AMY1 family. MYCBP (c-Myc binding protein) binds to the transactivation domain of c-Myc and stimulates the activation of E-box-dependent transcription. MYCBP translocates from the cytoplasm to the nucleus during S phase when increased expression of c-Myc occurs. MYCBP also associates with AKAP 149 and AKAP 84 in mitochondria of somatic cells and sperm, suggesting a role for MYCBP in spermatogenesis. CRABP1 is a member of special carrier proteins for members of the vitamin A family. It is believed that CRABP1 has an essential role in retinoic acid-mediated differentiation and proliferation processes. Though, CRABP1 is structurally similar to the cellular retinol-binding proteins, it binds only retinoic acid at specific sites within the nucleus, which may contribute to vitamin A-directed differentiation in epithelial tissue. CRABP1 is constitutively expressed and is thought to have different functions in the cell than the related CRABP2. CRABP1 forms a beta-barrel structure which accommodates hydrophobic ligands in its interior.
Loss of CRABP1 function as a result of hypermethylation of its promoter leads to pathogenesis of papillary thyroid carcinoma. Furthermore, frequent methylation-associated silencing of CRABP1 is linked to esophageal squamous-cell carcinoma.

VAMP3 is present in recycling endosomes and endosome-derived vesicles. VAMP3 has been implicated in recycling of transferrin receptors to the plasma membrane, secretion of alpha-granules in platelets, recycling of T-cell receptors to the immunological synapses, and membrane trafficking during cell migration. VAMP-3 is present in human platelets and necessary for granule secretion. Synaptobrevins are the main components of a protein complex involved in the docking and/or fusion of synaptic vesicles with the presynaptic membrane. VAMP3 high homology to other VAMPs in its broad tissue distribution and subcellular localization is shown to be the human equivalent of the rodent cellubrevin. In platelets the protein resides on a compartment that is not mobilized to the plasma membrane on calcium or thrombin stimulation.

Centromere Protein U, also known as CENPU is a specialized chromatin domain, present throughout the cell cycle. CENPU performs as a platform on which the transient assembly of the kinetochore takes place during mitosis. CENPU plays a major role in the correct PLK1 localization to the mitotic kinetochores. A scaffold protein is responsible for the first recruitment and maintenance of the kinetochore PLK1 population until its degradation. CENPU is also implicated in transcriptional repression.

CACYBP (calcyclin binding protein) participates in calcium-dependent ubiquitination and subsequent proteosomal degradation of target proteins. CACYBP acts as a molecular bridge in ubiquitin E3 complexes. CACYBP is involved in the ubiquitin-mediated degradation of beta-catenin.

NCBP2 is a part of the nuclear cap-binding protein complex (CBC) that binds to the monomethylated 5'' cap of nascent pre-mRNA in the nucleoplasm. NCBP2 protein has an RNP domain usually located in RNA binding proteins, and contains the cap-binding activity. Heterogeneous Nuclear Ribonucleoprotein K, also known as HNRNPK, is a part of the subfamily of ubiquitously expressed heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs). HNRNPK takes part in p53/TP53 reaction to DNA damage, acting at the level of both transcription activation and repression. Loss of PEBP1 expression may have a significant role as prognostic marker in Gastrointestinal stromal tumors. In addition, PEBP1 is found differentially expressed in the Wernicke's Area from schizophrenia patients. PEBP1 is also, an invasion suppressor protein in nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

CtBP was initially known as a cellular protein which cooperates with a C-terminal motif of adenovirus E1A oncoproteins. C-terminal-binding protein is extremely conserved in higher eukaryotes. Vertebrates hold two highly homologous CtBP proteins (CtBP1 and CtBP2) while invertebrates h a single CtBP. CtBP family proteins has a significant sequence homology with D-2-hydroxy acid dehydrogenases.
