TNFRSF13B (TACI) is a transmembrane receptor protein found predominantly on the surface of B cells (a significant part of the immune system). TACI was at first discovered owing to its ability to interact with calcium-modulator and cyclophilin ligand (CAML). Later on, it was found that TACI plays a key role in humoral immunity by interacting with two members of the TNF family. Also, TACI controls T cell-independent B cell antibody responses, isotype switching, and B cell homeostasis.

Structure: The crystal structure of E. coli UDG has been extensively studied, revealing that it belongs to the uracil DNA glycosylase (UDG) superfamily. The E. coli UDG monomer has 229 amino acids with a molecular weight of 25 kDa. The protein has a beta-sheet-rich structure with an alpha-helix on one side and a groove on the other side that binds to DNA. The active site of E. coli UDG contains a conserved glutamic acid residue that acts as a catalytic base to facilitate the hydrolysis of the N-glycosidic bond between uracil and the sugar phosphate backbone.

Function: E. coli UDG plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity of the genome by preventing the accumulation of mutations that can arise from the incorporation of uracil into DNA. TES also called Testin is a tumor suppressor protein which is involved in cell adhesion, cell spreading and in the restructuring of the actin cytoskeleton.
