DCTPP1, also known as dCTP pyrophosphatase 1, contains an epilepsy-associated repeat (EAR) domain that is predicted to participate in protein-protein interactions, most likely involved in ligand recognition. This protein functions to hydrolyze abnormal nucleotide triphosphates (NTPs) in cancer cells that, if unregulated, could be incorporated into nascent DNA or RNA.

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the bone morphogenetic protein family which is part of the transforming growth factor-beta superfamily. The superfamily includes large families of growth and differentiation factors. Bone morphogenetic proteins were originally identified by an ability of demineralized bone extract to induce endochondral osteogenesis in vivo in an extraskeletal site. This particular family member plays an important role in the onset of endochondral bone formation in humans, and a reduction in expression has been associated with a variety of bone diseases, including the heritable disorder Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva. HINT1, also known as Histidine triad nucleotide-binding protein 1 is part of the superfamily named for a near C-terminal HXHXHXX motif (H:Histidine, X:a hydrophobic amino acid) positioned at the ?-phosphate of nucleotide substrates. HINT1 hydrolyzes adenosine 5'-monophosphoramidate substrates such as AMP-morpholidate, AMP-N-alanine methyl ester, AMP-alpha-acetyl lysine methyl ester and AMP-NH2. Thyroglobulin (TG) represents one of the main autoantigenic targets in autoimmune thyroid disease of humans.
