TCEB1 (elongin C) is a subunit of elongin, which is a common transcription elongation factor that increases the RNA polymerase II transcription elongation past template encoded arresting sites. The SIII complex is comprised of elongins A/A2, B and C. The SIII complex activates elongation by RNA polymerase II by curbing transient pausing of the polymerase at numerous sites within transcription units. Elongin A acts as the transcriptionally active component of the SIII complex, while elongins B and C are regulatory subunits. Elongin A2 is specifically expressed in the testis, and able to forming a stable complex with elongins B and C. The VHL (von Hippel-Lindau) tumor suppressor protein binds to elongins B and C, and thus inhibits transcription elongation.

Protein tyrosine phosphatase mitochondrial 1 (PTPMT1) is a broadly expressed PTP membrane protein with high expression levels in pancreatic beta cells. The PTPMT1 protein is completely restricted to the matrix face of the inner membrane of the mitochondrion. PTPMT1 is responsible for dephosphorylating mitochondrial proteins and thus has a major role in the production of ATP. PTPMT1 exhibits a specific preference for the lipid signaling molecule phosphatidylinositol 5-phosphate as substrate.

MED7 is a member of the Mediator complex subunit 7 family. The activation of gene transcription is a multistep course which is initiated by factors which identify transcriptional enhancer sites in DNA and collaborate with co-activators to direct transcriptional initiation by the RNA polymerase II apparatus. The gene encode a subunit of the CRSP (cofactor required for SP1 activation) complex, that, together with TFIID, is needed for effective activation by SP1. TGFB-Induced Factor Homeobox 2-Like, X-Linked (TGIF2LX) belongs to the TALE/TGIF homeobox family of transcription factors and takes part in spermatogenesis. A homolog of TGIF2LX is located in the male specific region of chromosome Y, in a block of sequence which is the outcome of a large X-to-Y transposition.

Sulfite oxidase, also known as SUOX is a homodimeric protein localized to the intermembrane space of mitochondria. Each subunit includes a heme domain as well as a molybdopterin-binding domain. The SUOX enzyme catalyzes the oxidation of sulfite to sulfate, the last reaction in the oxidative degradation of the sulfur amino acids cysteine and methionine. In addition, the deficiency of SUOX results in neurological abnormalities which are often fatal at an early age.

Creatine Kinase, Mitochondrial 2 (CKMT2) is a member of the ATP:guanido phosphotransferase family. CKMT2 is responsible for the transfer of high energy phosphate from mitochondria to the cytosolic carrier, creatine. CKMT2 reversibly catalyzes the transfer of phosphate between ATP and various phosphogens (e.g. creatine phosphate). Creatine kinase isoenzymes have a principal role in energy transduction in tissues with large, variable energy demands, such as skeletal muscle, heart, brain and spermatozoa. Mitochondrial creatine kinase occurs in 2 different oligomeric forms: dimers and octamers, contrary to the exclusively dimeric cytosolic creatine kinase isoenzymes. The CKMT2 gene contains sequences homologous to a number of motifs which are shared among some nuclear genes encoding mitochondrial proteins and therefore may be crucial for the coordinated activation of these genes during mitochondrial biogenesis.

HIF1A has a role as a master transcriptional monitor of the adaptive response to hypoxia. Under hypoxic conditions HIF1A activates the transcription of over 40 genes, including, erythropoietin, glucose transporters, glycolytic enzymes, vascular endothelial growth factor, and genes whose protein products increase oxygen release or facilitate metabolic adaptation to hypoxia. Thymidine kinase 2 mitochondrial (TK2) is a member of the DCK/DGK family. TK2 is an enzyme, a phosphotransferase (a kinase): 2'-deoxythymidine kinase, ATP-thymidine 5'-phosphotransferase. Thymidine kinase is found in most living cells. Thymidine kinase is present in 2 forms in mammalian cells, TK1 and TK2. Thymidine kinases have a central function in the synthesis of DNA and thus in cell division, since they are part of the exceptional reaction chain to introduce deoxythymidine into the DNA. TK2 is a deoxyribonucleoside kinase which specifically phosphorylates thymidine, deoxycytidine, and deoxyuridine. TK2 localizes to the mitochondria and is essential for mitochondrial DNA synthesis. TK2 gene defects are a cause of mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome type 2 (MTDPS2).

STAT1 is a member of the Signal Transducers and Activators of Transcriptionfamily of transcription factors. STAT1 is involved in upregulating genes due to a signal by either type Ior type IIinterferons. In response to IFN-?stimulation, STAT1 forms homodimers or heterodimers with STAT3that bind to the GAS (Interferon-Gamma Activated Sequence) promoter element; in response to either IFN-? or IFN-?stimulation, STAT1 forms a heterodimer with STAT2that can bind the ISRE (Interferon Stimulated Response Element) promoter element. TNF-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) is a ligand molecule which induces apoptosis. It is a type II transmembrane protein with homology to other members of the tumor necrosis factor family.
In humans, the gene that encodes for TRAIL is located at chromosome 3q26.
TRAIL binds to the death receptors, DR4 and DR5. The process of apoptosis is caspase-8-dependent. This protein preferentially induces apoptosis in transformed and tumor cells, but does not appear to kill normal cells although it is expressed at a significant level in most normal tissues.

High levels of TFF1 and TFF2 are found in serum from inflammatory bowel disease.

Ubiquinone biosynthesis protein COQ9 (COQ9) represents a mitochondrial ubiquinone biosynthesis gene. The COQ9 protein is likely required for biosynthesis of coenzyme Q10, since mutations at this locus have been linked with autosomal-recessive neonatal-onset primary coenzyme Q10 deficiency.

SMCP is a protein-coding gene. CREB/ATF BZIP Transcription Factor, also known as CREBZF activates transcription strongly once bound to HCFC1. CREBZF suppresses the expression of HSV proteins in cells infected with the virus in a HCFC1-dependent manner. CREBZF suppresses the HCFC1-dependent transcriptional activation through CREB3 and reduces the quantity of CREB3 in the cell. Branched Chain Amino-Acid Transaminase 2 (BCAT2) is a member of the class-IV pyridoxal-phosphate-dependent aminotransferase family. BCAT2 is a branched chain aminotransferase found in mitochondria. BCAT2 forms a dimer which catalyzes the first step in the production of the branched chain amino acids leucine, isoleucine, and valine. In addition, BCAT2 may actn as a transporter of branched chain alpha-keto acids.

Bcl2 modifying factor, is a member of the Bcl2 protein family of apoptosis mediators. Bcl2 modifying factor is widely expressed in many tissues.
Bcl2 modifying factor contains a single Bcl2 homology domain 3 (BH3), and binds Bcl2 proteins and functions as an apoptotic activator. Also, Bcl2 modifying factor is important for histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitors which alters the balance between acetylation and deacetylation, significantly increasing histone acetylation, while strongly inducing apoptosis in a variety of cancer cell types. Bcl2 modifying factor supports Bim in regulating cell death processes in response to many stimuli. A synergistic role for bim and Bcl2 modifying factor in an apoptotic pathway leading to the clearance of Neisseria gonorrhoeae -infected cells.
