PDRG1 is a 133 amino acid protein that localizes to the cytoplasm and belongs to the prefoldin subunit beta family. PDRG1 is expressed primarily in normal testicular tissue, it is functionally induced by ultraviolet light and is thought to have a role in chaperone-mediated protein folding, possibly having a role in cellular degradation. PDRG1 is linked to Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, spinal muscular atrophy, ring chromosome 20 epilepsy syndrome and Alagille syndrome.

Maltose Binding Protein (MBP) is a part of the maltose/maltodextrin system of Eschericia coli bacteria, which is responsible for the uptake and efficient catabolism of maltodextrins. It is a complex regulatory and transport system involving many proteins and protein complexes.
Maltose binding protein MalE,MBP, is part of the maltodextrin transport system in E. coli. The maltodextrins diffuse through the LamB pore located in the outer membrane into the periplasm. The sugar is bound to MalE which prevents it to diffuse back outside. MalE passes the sugar to a complex of MalF and MalG in the cytoplasmic membrane where active tranport is mediated by the ATPase MalK. MBP molecular weight is 40,622 dalton. There are two domains in the protein with similar secondary structure (central pleated sheets are surrounded by helices) . The domains are connected by three bridges, between the domains is a deep groove in which the sugar is bound. All hydroxyl groups of the sugar are fixed by sidechains of the protein by hydrogen bonds. Some water molecules are part of the hydrogen bridge network.

UL16 Binding Protein 4 (ULBP4) is a member of the RAET1 family, which is comprised of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I-related genes located in a cluster on chromosome 6q24.2-q25.3. ULBP4 functions as a ligand for the NKG2D receptor on the surface of NK cells. ULBP4 binding to the receptor induces expansion of anti-tumor cytotoxic lymphocytes. ULBP4 is expressed mainly in the skin, but also in the testis or trachea. ULBP4 is upregulated in different tumors. ULBP4 doesn’t interact with the CMV glycoprotein UL16. ULBP4 is also a ligand for the KLRK1 receptor. ULBP4 distributes activating signals to NK cells and stimulates tumor immune surveillance by inducing the expansion of anti-tumor cytotoxic lymphocytes.

Calcium-binding protein P22 is a phosphoprotein that binds to the sodium-hydrogen exchangers (NHEs). CHP is an essential cofactor which maintains the physiological activity of NHE family members. CHP has protein sequence resemblance to calcineurin B and it is also identified to be an endogenous inhibitor of calcineurin activity.CHP is necessary for constitutive membrane traffic. S100b is a member of the S100 family of proteins which are a family of EF-hand calcium binding proteins that exist mostly as dimers of the 20 currently identified individual S100 monomers. The S100B homodimer is expressed in cells of the central nervous system, glial cells and in certain peripheral cells e.g. Schwann cells, melanocytes, adipocytes and chondrocytes. S100 proteins are localized either in the cytoplasm or the nucleus of a wide range of cells. S100 proteins are involved in the regulation of a number of cellular processes such as cell cycle progression and differentiation. There are at least 13 members in the S100 gene family, which are located as a cluster on chromosome 1q21; however, S100b is located at 21q22.3. The determination of S100B in serum levels may be used to monitor the extent of brain injury and malignant melanoma. S100b proteins may have a role in Neurite extension, proliferation of melanoma cells, stimulation of Ca2+ fluxes, inhibition of PKC-mediated phosphorylation, astrocytosis and axonal proliferation, and inhibition of microtubule assembly. Chromosomal rearrangements and altered expression of the S100b gene are implicated in several neurological, neoplastic, and other types of diseases, including Alzheimer's disease, Down's syndrome, epilepsy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, melanoma, and type I diabetes.

UL16 Binding Protein 3 (ULBP3) is a ligand for the NKG2D receptor in NK cells. ULBPs activate different signaling pathways resulting in the production of cytokines and chemokines. ULBP3 is a ligand for the KLRK1/NKG2D receptor, along with at least ULBP1 and ULBP2. Binding of ULBPs ligands to KLRK1/NKG2D stimulates calcium mobilization and activation of the JAK2, STAT5, ERK and PI3K kinase/Akt signal transduction pathway. ULBP3 has lower affinity for KLRK1/NKG2D compared to ULBP1 and ULBP2 and stimulates weaker signaling responses than does ULBP2 or ULBP1.
