UFC1 is a member of the ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme family. UFC1 is an E2-like conjugating enzyme for ubiquitin-fold modifier-1. UFM1 is activated by UBA5 (a novel E1-like enzyme) by forming a high-energy thioester bond. Activated UFM1 is subsequently transferred to its cognate E2-like enzyme, UFC1, in a similar thioester linkage.

Cardiotrophin-like cytokine factor 1 (CLCF1) is a member of the interleukin 6 family of cytokines, which are involved in cell signaling via phosphorylation of gp130. CLCF1 has a sequence of 225 amino acids with a 27 aa signal peptide, having a molecular mass of 22kDa in the mature form, and the maximum homology to cardiotrophin-1 and ciliary neurotrophic factor. CLCF1 is actively secreted from cells by forming a complex with soluble type I CRLF1 or soluble CNTFR. Defects in the CLCF1 gene cause cold-induced sweating syndrome 2 (CISS2). The CISS2 syndrome is typified by profuse sweating after exposure to cold as well as congenital physical abnormalities of the head and spine.

VAMP8 also called endobrevin, is the main component of a SNARE complex involved in the docking and fusion of synaptic vesicles with the presynaptic membrane. VAMP8 protein is involved in the regulatation of enzyme secretion in pancreatic acinar cells and plays a part in the abscission of the midbody during cell division, which leads to completely separate daughter cells. VAMP8 is essential for dense-granule secretion in platelets. VAMP8 is related with the perinuclear vesicular structures of the early endocytic compartment. VAMP8 interacts particularly with the soluble NSF-attachment protein (alpha-SNAP), through an VAMP8-containing SNARE complex.

RELM-gamma is a novel member of the resistin-like molecule/found in inflammatory zone (RELM/FIZZ) family in mice and rats. Microarray and real-time RT-PCR experiments revealed a repression of RELMgamma mRNA in nasal respiratory epithelium of cigarette smoke-exposed versus untreated rats. The analysis of the physiological tissue-specific expression revealed highest expression in hematopoietic tissues, suggesting a cytokine-like role for RELM-gamma. RELM-gamma-mRNA is detectable in bone marrow, spleen, and lung as well as in peripheral blood granulocytes. Promyelocytic HL60 cells transfected with a RELM-gamma expression plasmid have an increased proliferation rate compared to mock-transfected cells and display an altered response to retinoic acid-induced granulocytic differentiation. Taken together, these data provide the first experimental evidence that RELM-gamma is a secreted molecule with a restricted expression pattern that may play a role in promyelocytic differentiation.

FCGR2B is a low affinity receptor for the Fc region of immunoglobulin gamma complexes. FCGR2B participates in the phagocytosis of immune complexes and in the regulation of antibody production by B-cells. FCGR2B Expressed in monocyte, neutrophils, macrophages, basophils, eosinophils, Langerhans cells, B-cells, platelets cells and placenta (endothelial cells). Variants in FCGR2B may increase susceptibilty to systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).

MGAT2 is an enzyme which takes part in the catalyzation of a crucial step in the reaction of oligomannose which converts to complex N-glycans. MGAT2 has three domains, classic to glycosyltransferase: short N-terminal cytoplasmic domain, a C-terminal catalytic domain and hydrophobic non-cleavable signal-anchor domain. The enzyme MGAT2 is encoded by the MGAT2 gene in humans. There are no introns in the DNA coding the gene, therefore mutations in the MGAT2 will result in carbohydrate-deficient glycoprotein syndrome, type II.

Uteroglobin (SCGB1A1) which belongs to the Secretoglobin (SCGBs) superfamily, is a multifunctional protein that exerts anti-inflammatory and anti-tumorigenic effects by binding small hydrophobic molecules such as phospholipids and prostaglandins. Uteroglobin is involved in numerous functions including anti-inflammation, inhibition of phospholipase A2 and the sequestering of hydrophobic ligands. SCGB1A1 is expressed by Clara cells, the non-ciliated, non-mucous secretory cells predominant in lung bronchioles, and by other epithelia which communicate with the external environment. On top of sequestering pro-inflammatory mediators and carcinogens, Uteroglobin is implicated in the inhibition of cell migration and invasion, platelet aggregation, and T cell differentiation. SCGB1A1 gene defects are associated with a susceptibility to asthma.

IL-31 produced by activated Th2-type T cells, cooperates with a heterodimeric receptor consisting of IL-31 Receptor Anatagonist and Onconstatin-M Receptor that is continuesly expressed on epithelial cells and keratinocytes. IL-31 plays a role in the promotion of allergic skin disorders and in regulating other allergic diseases, such as asthma. IL-31 is involved in the itching sensation and endorses the scratching behavior in NC/Nga mice with atopic dermatitis. IL-31 expression is connectd with CLA(+) T cells and contributes to the development of atopic dermatitis-induced skin inflammation and pruritus. IL-31 is a powerful inducer of proinflammatory mediators in human colonic SEMFs. IL-31 takes part as a proinflammatory cytokine derived from Th2 cells.
Serum IL-31 level is higher in patients with atopic dermatitis. IL-31 is involved in a broad range of immune- & non-immune cells & possesses potential pleiotropic physiological functions, including regulating hematopoiesis & immune response, causing inflammatory bowel disease, airway hypersensitivity & dermatitis.

Cyclophilin-E is a member of the peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerase (PPIase) family. PPIases catalyze the cis-trans isomerization of proline imidic peptide bonds in oligopeptides and speeds up the protein folding. Cyclophilin-E contains a highly conserved cyclophilin domain in addition to a RNA-binding domain. Cyclophilin-E exhibits PPIase activity, protein folding activities and possess RNA-binding activity. Cyclophilin-E contains 2 RNA binding domains at the N-terminal region and a PPIase domain at the C-terminal region.

IL-7 is a cytokine important for B and T cell development. This cytokine and the hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) form a heterodimer that functions as a pre-pro-B cell growth-stimulating factor. This cytokine is found to be a cofactor for V(D)J rearrangement of the T cell receptor beta (TCRB) during early T cell development. This cytokine can be produced locally by intestinal epithelial and epithelial goblet cells, and may serve as a regulatory factor for intestinal mucosal lymphocytes. Knockout studies in mice suggested that this cytokine plays an essential role in lymphoid cell survival.

Pre-S is a region is comprised of Pre-S1 and S2, Pre-S1 has a vital role in receptor recognition, while Pre-S2 plays a part in translocation of virus into host cell. Clinically, HBV pre-S is linked with HBsAg and HBV DNA copies, which indicates active replication of virus, reduction of pre-S is typically associated with decreased HBV DNA copies, pointing to an improved predictor of treatment. NEFL or Neurofilament light polypeptide is a protein that is encoded through the NEFL gene. NEFL is correlated to a disease called Charcot–Marie–Tooth. The protein’s light subunit is determined by immunoassays in the plasma and cerebrospinal fluid, if present, it can indicate on axonal damage in neurological diseases. By doing so, NEFL can act as a marker for Huntington's disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and multiple sclerosis.

Eotaxin-2, also called MPIF2 & Ckb6, is a novel CC chemokine produced by activated monocytes and T lymphocytes. Eotaxin-2 selectively chemoattracts cells expressing CCR3 including eosinophils, basophils, Th2 T cells, mast cells, and certain subsets of dendritic cells. Filamin is a large (270kd) dimeric actin crosslinking protein from a variety of sources, which helps to stabilize the 3D cortical actin network. The fundamental structure of filamin is well conserved and consists of an actin binding domain at the N-terminus followed by a C-terminal rod domain consisting of numerous repeat segments ranging from 4 in C. elegans to 24 in mammalian cells. Each repeat in the rod domain consists of roughly 100 residues and forms an immunoglobulin like fold. Such immunoglobulin folds have been found in a variety of proteins and are responsible for protein-protein interactions. Filamin Human actin-binding protein (ABP), aka filamin, crosslinks actin filaments into orthogonal networks in cortical cytoplasm and participates in the anchoring of membrane proteins for the actin cytoskeleton. Mammalian filamin interacts directly with at least 30 proteins such as transmembrane receptors, second messenger-associated proteins, protein kinases, phosphatases and cytoskeletal proteins and these interactions have been shown to require one or more of the repeat elements in the rod domain.
