Sterile Alpha Motif Domain Containing 13 (SAMD13) is a putative protein interaction module which is present in various proteins involved in numerous biological processes. SAMD13 contains one SAM (sterile alpha motif) domain. The SAM domain, which spreads over around 70 residues, is found in various eukaryotic organisms. SAM domains are known to homo- and hetero-oligomerise, forming multiple self-association constructions and also binding to various non-SAM domain-containing proteins, however with a low affinity constant.

The eIF-3 complex associates with the 40S ribosomeand facilitates the recruitment of eIF-1, eIF-1A, eIF 2: GTP: methionyl-tRNAi and eIF-5 to form the 43S preinitiationcomplex (43S PIC). In addition, the eIF-3 complex stimulates mRNA recruitment to the 43S PIC and scanning of the mRNA forAUG recognition. The eIF-3 complex is also necessary for disassembly and recycling of post termination ribosomalcomplexes and subsequently prevents premature union of the 40S and 60S ribosomal subunits prior to initiation. Among the diseases associated with EIF3F are intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, and cholangiocarcinoma.

Calmodulin-2 mediates the control of a large number of enzymes and other proteins by ca(2+). among the enzymes to be stimulated by the calmodulin-ca(2+) complex are a number of protein kinases and phosphatases.

TGFB-Induced Factor Homeobox 2-Like Y-Linked (TGIF2LY) is a part of the TALE/TGIF homeobox family of transcription factors. TGIF2LY is located in the male specific region of chromosome Y, in a block of sequence which is the outcome of a large X-to-Y transposition. TGIF2LY act as a regulator of TGIF2LX due to the fact that the C-terminus of TGIF2LY is different from that of its chromosome X homolog (TGIF2LX). TGIF2LY has also a transcription role in testis.

Endothelial cells express three different vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) receptors, belonging to the family of receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs). They are named VEGFR-1 (Flt-1), VEGFR-2 (KDR/Flk-1), VEGFR-3 (Flt-4). Their expression is almost exclusively restricted to endothelial cells, but VEGFR-1 can also be found on monocytes, dendritic cells and on trophoblast cells. The flt-1 gene was first described in 1990. The receptor contains seven immunoglobulin-like extracellular domains, a single transmembrane region and an intracellular splited tyrosine kinase domain. Compared to VEGFR-2 the Flt-1 receptor has a higher affinity for VEGF but a weaker signaling activity. VEGFR-1 thus leads not to proliferation of endothelial cells, but mediates signals for differentiation. Interestingly a naturally occuring soluble variant of VEGFR-1 (sVEGFR-1) was found in HUVE supernatants in 1996, which is generated by alternative splicing of the flt-1 mRNA. The biological functions of sVEGFR-1 still are not clear, but it seems to be an endogenous regulator of angiogenesis, binding VEGF with the same affinity as the full-length receptor.

Inositol-tetrakisphosphate 1-kinase (ITPK1) is a 414 amino acid monomer which is a member of the ITPK1 family and exists as 2 alternatively spliced isoforms. ITPK1 highest levels are found in the brain, followed by the heart, skeletal muscle, kidney, pancreas, liver, placenta and lung. ITPK1 is comprised of one ATP-grasp domain and has been shown to phosphorylate various inositol polyphosphates and modify TNFa induced apoptosis.
