TIE-1 (tyrosine kinase with Ig and EGF homology domains 1) and TIE-2/Tek comprise a receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) subfamily with unique structural characteristics: two immunoglobulin-like domains flanking three epidermal growth factor (EGF)-like domains and followed by three fibronectin type III-like repeats in the extracellular region and a split tyrosine kinase domain in the cytoplasmic region. These receptors are expressed primarily on endothelial and hematopoietic progenitor cells and play critical roles in angiogenesis, vasculogenesis and hematopoiesis. Human TIE-1 cDNA encodes a 1124 amino acid (aa) residue precursor protein with an 18 residue putative signal peptide, a 727 residue extracellular domain and a 354 residue cytoplasmic domain. Whereas two ligands have been described for TIE-2 [angiopoietin-1 (Ang1) and angiopoietin-2 (Ang2)], so far no ligand was found for TIE-1.

Inositol-tetrakisphosphate 1-kinase (ITPK1) is a 414 amino acid monomer which is a member of the ITPK1 family and exists as 2 alternatively spliced isoforms. ITPK1 highest levels are found in the brain, followed by the heart, skeletal muscle, kidney, pancreas, liver, placenta and lung. ITPK1 is comprised of one ATP-grasp domain and has been shown to phosphorylate various inositol polyphosphates and modify TNFa induced apoptosis.

CTK-19 is a member of the keratin family. The keratins are intermediate filament proteins responsible for the structural integrity of epithelial cells and are subdivided into cytokeratins and hair keratins. The type I cytokeratins consist of acidic proteins which are arranged in pairs of heterotypic keratin chains. Obestatin is a peptide hormone - a relatively small protein. It is encoded by the same gene that also encodes ghrelin, a peptide hormone that increases appetite. The protein produced by that gene breaks into two smaller peptides, ghrelin and obestatin. Ghrelin is an endogenous ligand for the growth hormone secretagogue receptor and is involved in regulating growth hormone release. Ghrelin is derived from a preprohormone called preproghrelin, which also generates a second peptide called obestatin. Ghrelin is an endogenous ligand for the orphan G protein-coupled receptor GPR39 and is involved in satiety and decreased food intake.

Peroxiredoxin 6 (PRDX6) belongs to the thiol-specific antioxidant protein family. PRDX6 is a bifunctional enzyme with 2 distinct active sites. PRDX6 is involved in redox regulation of the cell and can reduce Hydrogen peroxide and short chain organic, fatty acid, and phospholipid hydroperoxides. PRDX6 may have a role in the regulation of phospholipid turnover as well as in protection against oxidative injury. Furthermore, PRDX6 eases the oxidative stress and TGF-beta-induced abnormalities of human trabecular meshwork cells. In addition, PRDX6 is necessary for blood vessel integrity in injured skin.

Leucine Zipper Transcription Factor-Like 1, also known as LZTFL1 is a ubiquitously expressed protein which localizes to the cytoplasm. LZTFL1 interacts with Bardet-Biedl Syndrome proteins (BBS) and during its interaction with BBS protein complexes, regulates protein trafficking to the ciliary membrane. Nonsense mutations in LZTFL1 cause a form of Bardet-Biedl Syndrome; a ciliopathy characterized partly by polydactyly, obesity, cognitive impairment, hypogonadism, and kidney failure. LZTFL1 also acts as a tumor suppressor; possibly by interacting with E-cadherin as well as the actin cytoskeleton and in this manner regulating the transition of epithelial cells to mesenchymal cells.

Clathrin light chain B (CLTB) is a member of the clathrin light chain family. Clathrin is a protein that has a key role in the formation of coated vesicles.
