GDF3 is a member of the TGF-beta superfamily though it does not show similarity pattern of conserved cysteine residues. GDF3 is linked to Vg-1 and human BMP-4. GDF3 transcripts are identified mainly in adult bone marrow, spleen, thymus, and adipose tissue. GDF3 expression is upregulated strongly in high-fat-fed C57Bl/6J FABP4/aP2 null mice, which develop obesity but not the related hyperglycemia or hyperinsulinemia characteristic of type II diabetes. GDF3 expression therefore bonds fatty acid metabolism in adipocytes and the expression of a differentiation regulator belonging to the bone morphogenetic proteins.

Cyclin-Dependent Kinase 2 Associated Protein 2 (CDK2AP2) is a member of the CDK2AP family. CDK2-associated protein is assumed to negatively regulate CDK2 activity by sequestering monomeric CDK2, and targeting CDK2 for proteolysis. CDK2AP2 is implicated in the regulation of self-renewal of stem cells during early embryogenesis. Complement Factor Properdin (CFP) which is a plasma glycoprotein, is a positive regulator of the alternative complement pathway of the innate immune system. CFP binds and stabilizes the C3- and C5-convertase enzyme complexes in a feedback loop that eventually ends with formation of the membrane attack complex and lysis of the target cell. Mutations in CFP lead to 2 forms of properdin deficiency that cause high susceptibility to meningococcal infections.

HNRNPC is a member of the subfamily of ubiquitously expressed heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs) which are related to pre mRNAs in the nucleus and effect pre mRNA processing and other aspects of mRNA metabolism and transport. FAM50A is a member of the FAM50 family. FAM50A is highly conserved in length and sequence among numerous species. FAM50A is a basic protein comprised of a nuclear localization signal, and can function as a DNA-binding protein or a transcriptional factor. FAM50A expressed in all tissues mainly abundant in fetal brain, liver and kidney. High levels of FAM50A were observed in the adult's skeletal muscle, spleen, thymus, prostate and the small intestine.

TP53-induced glycolysis and apoptosis regulator (TIGAR or C12ORF5), is a 270 amino acid protein induced by the p53 tumor suppressor pathway that functions to protect against oxidative stress. C12ORF5 specifically functions to block glycolysis, leading the pathway to the pentose phosphate shunt and decreasing the intracellular concentration of reactive oxygen species. Therefore, it is thought that C12ORF5 may act to modulate the apoptotic response to p53, thus allowing cells to survive mild or transient stresses.

HSA is synthesized in the liver as preproalbumin which has an N-terminal peptide that is removed before the nascent protein is released from the rough endoplasmic reticulum. The product, proalbumin, is in turn cleaved in the Golgi vesicles to produce the secreted HSA. HSA is a soluble, monomeric protein which comprises about one-half of the blood serum protein. The human HSA gene is 16,961 nucleotides long from the putative 'cap' site to the first poly (A) addition site. It is split into 15 exons which are symmetrically placed within the 3 domains that are thought to have arisen by triplication of a single primordial domain.
HSA is widely used to stabilize blood volume generally from donors but the fear of contamination such as HIV & Hepatitis has enticed great interest in the recombinant form which is identical to the natural blood.

DnaJ (Hsp40) Homolog, Subfamily C, Member 12 (DNAJC12) belongs to the DnaJ/Hsp40 family. DnaJ/Hsp40 family members are linked with complex assembly, protein folding, and export. DnaJ/Hsp40 proteins are extremely conserved throughout evolution and function as co-chaperones regulating protein folding, transport, translational initiation and gene expression. DnaJC12 has a role in protein folding and export and is believed to be involved in estrogen control and the development of breast cancer. DNAJC12 is expressed at high levels in the brain, heart, and testis, and at reduced levels in the kidney and stomach.
