NDUFS2 is a core subunit of the mitochondrial membrane respiratory chain NADH dehydrogenase (Complex I) which is a part of the minimal assembly required for catalysis. Complex I takes part in the transfer of electrons from NADH to the respiratory chain. Histidine NADH Dehydrogenase Fe-S Protein 2 (NDUFS2) is required for catalytic activity. Imperfections in NDUFS2 are the source of complex I mitochondrial respiratory chain deficiency, which is characterized by many symptoms including liver failure, cardiomyopathy and neurodegeneration.

Introduction
IVD is a mitochondrial matrix enzyme that is part of the cyl-CoA dehydrogenase family which catalyzes the third step in leucine catabolism. The genetic deficiency of IVD leads to a buildup of isovaleric acid, which is toxic to the central nervous system and results in isovaleric acidemia. Cytosolic and membrane-bound types of GST are encoded by 2 different supergene families. There are 8 classes of the soluble cytoplasmic mammalian GST: alpha, kappa, mu, omega, pi, sigma, theta and zeta. The mu class of enzymes functions in the detoxification of electrophilic compounds, including carcinogens, therapeutic drugs, environmental toxins and products of oxidative stress, by conjugation with glutathione. The genes encoding the mu class of enzymes are arranged in a gene cluster on chromosome 1p13.3 and aare highly polymorphic. These genetic differences can change an individual's resistance to carcinogens and toxins as well as affect the toxicity and efficacy of certain drugs. Null mutations of this class mu gene have been linked with the rise in a number of cancers.

G6PD is the rate-limiting enzyme of the pentose phosphate pathway, a metabolic pathway that supplies reducing energy to cells by maintaining the level of NADPH. G6PD converts glucose-6-phosphate into 6-phosphoglucono-?-lactone and at the same time produces NADPH. The NADPH maintains the level of glutathione in these cells that helps protect the red blood cells against oxidative damage. G6PD deficiency causes acute hemolytic anemia, neonatal jaundice or acute hemolysis. G6PD is a cytosolic enzyme encoded by an X-linked gene whose main function is to produce NADPH, a crucial electron donor in the defense against oxidizing agents and in reductive biosynthetic reactions.
