Betaine-Homocysteine Methyltransferase 2 (BHMT2) is involved in the regulation of homocysteine metabolism. Homocysteine is a sulfur-containing amino acid which has a key role in methylation reactions. Transfer of the methyl group from betaine to homocysteine generates methionine, which donates the methyl group to methylate DNA, proteins, lipids, and other intracellular metabolites. BHMT2 is one of two methyl transferases which can catalyze the transfer of the methyl group from betaine to homocysteine. BHMT2 converts homocysteine to methionine using S-methylmethionine (SMM) as a methyl donor. COMT catalyzes the transfer of a methyl group from S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) to catechol substrates such as the neurotransmitters. This O-methylation results in one of the main degradative pathways of the catecholamine transmitters. COMT COMT is located in the postsynaptic neuron and is involved in the metabolism of catechol estrogen drugs used in the treatment of hypertension, asthma, Parkinson disease and the inactivation of catecholamine neurotransmitters though enzymatic degradation. ACOT11 belongs to the acyl-CoA thioesterase family which catalyses the transformation of activated fatty acids to the equivalent non-esterified fatty acid and coenzyme A. Expression of a mouse homolog in brown adipose tissue is induced by low temperatures and inhibited by high temperatures. Obesity-resistant mice demonstrated High levels of expression compared with obesity-prone mice, indicating BFIT takes part in acyl-CoA thioesterase 11 in obesity. N-acetylneuraminate lyase (NanA) is a member of a family of lyases, specifically the oxo-acid-lyases, which cleave carbon-carbon bonds. NanA catalyzes the cleavage of N-acetylneuraminic acid (sialic acid) to form pyruvate and N-acetyl-D-mannosamine. NanA is inhibited by reduction with NaBH4 in the presence of the substrate, which indicates that it belongs to the Schiff-base-forming Class I aldolases. Introduction
CES1 is a part of the alpha/beta fold hydrolase familyand participates in the detoxification of xenobiotics and in the activation of ester and amide prodrugs. CES1hydrolyzes aromatic and aliphatic esters, although it has no catalytic activity toward amides or a fatty acyl-CoA ester. CES1hydrolyzes the methyl ester group of cocaine to form benzoylecgonine and catalyzes the transesterification of cocaine to form cocaethylene. CES1also plays a role in detoxification in the lung and protection of the central nervous system from ester or amide compounds.CES1 is found in most tissues, mainly in the liver.
