      Glutamate Decarboxylase 2 (GAD2) is one of several forms of glutamic acid decarboxylase, identified as a main autoantigen in type II diabetes. The GAD2 enzyme is responsible for catalyzing the production of gamma-aminobutyric acid from L-glutamic acid. A pathogenic role for the GAD2 enzyme has been characterized in the human pancreas since it has been identified as an autoantibody and an autoreactive T cell target in type II diabetes. GAD2 gene may also have a role in the stiff man syndrome. In addition, GAD2 catalyzes the production of GABA.

      GNMT is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of S-adenosyl-L-methionine with glycine to S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine. GNMT is located in the cytoplasm and acts as a homotetramer.       Sialidase 1 (NEU1) is a lysosomal enzyme which cleaves terminal sialic acid residues from substrates such as glycoproteins and glycolipids. In the lysosome, the NEU1 enzyme is part of a heterotrimeric complex in cooperation with beta-galactosidase and cathepsin A. NEU1 gene mutations may lead to sialidosis, a lysosomal storage disease that can be the type 1 (cherry red -myoclonus syndrome or normosomatic type), which is late-onset, or the type 2 (the dysmorphic type), which takes place at an earlier age with increased acuteness.
