Dual Specificity Phosphatase 6, also known as DUSP6 belongs to the dual specificity protein phosphatase subfamily. DUSP6 is a Protein coding gene which inactivates MAP kinases. Various members of the family of dual specificity phosphatases show diverse tissue distribution, subcellular localization, and different modes of inducibility of their expression by extracellular stimuli.

Fatty Acid Amide Hydrolase 2 (FAAH2) shares a conserved protein motif with the amidase signature family of enzymes. FAAH2 catalyzes the hydrolysis of a broad range of bioactive lipids, including those from the 3 main classes of fatty acid amides; N-acylethanolamines, fatty acid primary amides and N-acyl amino acids. FAAH2 is also degrades bioactive fatty acid amides to their corresponding acids, thus helping to end the signaling functions of these molecules. FAAH2 prefers monounsaturated acyl chains as a substrate.

FGF8 is part of the fibroblast growth factor family. FGF family members have wide mitogenic and cell survival activities, and participate in a variety of biological processes, including embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, tumor growth and invasion. FGF8 supports androgen and anchorage independent growth of mammary tumor cells. FGF8 over expression increases tumor growth and angiogensis. The adult expression of FGF-8 gene is restricted to testes and ovaries. FGF8 functions as an embryonic epithelial factor. FGF8 takes part in midbrain and limb development, organogenesis, embryo gastrulation and left-right axis determination.

MAO-B is a member of the flavin monoamine oxidase family. MAO-B (Monoamine oxidase B) is a flavin-containing mitochondrial enzyme that catalyzes the oxidative deamination of biogenic and xenobiotic monoamines. MAO-B controls the metabolic degradation of catecholamines and serotonin in neural and other target tissues. MAO-B is located in platelets and in DOPA-secreting neurons in the brain. MAOB and MAOA genes have an imperative function in DOPA degradation. Benzylamine and phenylethylamine are preferentially degraded by MAOB. The MAOB gene is linked to autistic traits, empathy and Asperger syndrome. Amplified levels of MAO B are identified in the brain of Alzheimer’s patients. High phenylethylamine levels in neonates as a result of low MAOB are consistent with phenylketonuria in newborns. Polymorphisms in MAO-B are connected to smoking behavior.

MAT1A catalyzes a two-step reaction that involves the transfer of the adenosyl moiety of ATP to methionine to form S-adenosylmethionine and tripolyphosphate, which is subsequently cleaved to PPi and Pi. S-adenosylmethionine is the source of methyl groups for most biological methylations. MAT1A is found as a homotetramer (MAT I) or a homodimer (MAT III) whereas a third form, MAT II (gamma), is encoded by the MAT2A gene. Mutations in MAT1A gene are associated with methionine adenosyltransferase deficiency. MAT1A expression also correlates with a differentiated phenotype, whereas liver cells expressing MAT2A present a dedifferentiated phenotype and lowered AdoMet synthesis. Likewise, NFκB and TNFα cause a switch from MAT1A to MAT2A expression in human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), which facilitates cancer cell growth.

Adenylate kinases plays a role in regulating the adenine nucleotide composition within a cell by catalyzing the reversible transfer of phosphate groups among adenine nucleotides. There are 3 types of adenylate kinase isozymes, AK1, AK2, and AK3 in vertebrates. Expression of these isozymes are tissue-specific and developmentally regulated. AK2 is localized in the mitochondrial intermembrane space and is involved in apoptosis. AK2 is mutated in individuals with reticular dysgenesis.

EEF1A1 is an isoform of the alpha subunit of the elongation factor-1 complex, which is responsible forthe enzymatic release of aminoacyl tRNAs to the ribosome. EEF1A1 is expressed in brain, placenta, lung, liver, kidney, and pancreas, and the other isoform (alpha 2) is expressed in brain, heart and skeletal muscle. EEF1A1 is recognized as an autoantigen in 66% of patients with Felty syndrome. EEF1A1 has multiple copies on numerous chromosomes, part of them, if not all, symbolize different pseudogenes. Among the diseases associated with EEF1A1 are tinea nigra and andcervical cancer.

Calcium-activated nucleotidase 1 (CANT1) is a member of the apyrase family. The CANT1 protein is calcium-dependent nucleotidase with a preference for UDP. The order of activity with different substrates is as follows: UDP > GDP > UTP > GTP. Moreover, CANT1 has a very low activity towards ADP and an even lower activity towards ATP. As well as it doesn’t hydrolyze AMP and GMP. CANT1’s specific function is yet unknown, nevertheless its substrates are involved in several key signaling functions, including Ca2+ release, through activation of pyrimidinergic signaling. Endoglin is a type I membrane glycoprotein located on cell surfaces and is part of the TGF beta receptor complex.The Endoglin protein consists of a homodimer of 180 kDA with disulfide links. Endoglin has been found on endothelial cells, activated macrophages, fibroblasts, and smooth muscle cells. Furthermore, Endoglin has been found to be part of the TGF-beta1 receptor complex. Endoglin thus may be involved in the binding of TGF-beta1, TGF-beta3, activin-A, BMP-2, and BMP-7. Beside TGF-beta signaling endoglin may have other functions. It has been postulated that endoglin is involved in the cytoskeletal organization affecting cell morphology and migration. Endoglin has a role in the development of the cardiovascular system and in vascular remodeling. Endoglin expression is regulated during heart development . Experimental mice without the endoglin gene die due to cardiovascular abnormalities.

TIGAR is a p53-inducible enzyme which catalyzes the hydrolysis of fructose-2-6 bisphosphate (F-2-6-BP) to fructose-6-phosphate and inorganic phosphate. F-2-6-BP is an influential activator of 6-phosphofructose-1 kinase (the rate limiting enzyme of glycolysis). By lowering the intracellular level of F-2-6-BP, TIGAR expression leads to increased glucose processing through the pentose phosphate pathway, the main cellular source for NADPH.

E-selectin which is also called Endothelial leukocyte adhesion molecule 1, ELAM1, ELAM belongs to a family of divalent cation-dependent carbohydrate-binding glycoproteins or adhesion molecules. Eselectin is expressed on the surface of endothelial cells and mediates the interaction of leukocytes and platelets with endothelial cells during an inflammatory response. E-selectin is present in single copy in the human genome and contains 14 exons spanning about 13 kb of DNA.

EIF4E is part of the eukaryotic initiation factor 4 families, controls translation of maternal mRNAs in early embryos before the onset of zygotic transcription. EIF4E identifies and binds to the 7 methyl GTP cap structure of eukaryotic mRNAs, thus modulates the initiation of translation. EIF4E enables ribosome binding by inducing the unwinding of the mRNAs secondary structures.

Histamine N-Methyltransferase or HNMT, is located in the cell cytosol. Sadenosyl-L-methionine acts as a methyl donor for HNMT which inactivates histamine. By inactivation of histamine, it affects the immune system’s response. HNMT acts on histamine in body tissues such as kidney, central nervous system and bronchus. The protein has a crucial part in the airway response to histamine & histamine degradation process and regulation.

Placental Lactogen is a polypeptide hormone that is produced by the Syncytiotrophoblasts of the Placenta, also known as chorionic somatomammotropin. It has both Growth Hormone and Prolactin activities on growth, lactation, and luteal steroid production. In women, placental lactogen secretion begins soon after implantation and increases to 1 g or more a day in late pregnancy. Placental lactogen is also an insulin antagonist.
Placental Lactogen Ovine is also capable of activating human and other heterologous GH receptors but not ruminat GH receptors.

The enzyme expression of various adenylate kinase isozymes is growth regulated and tissue-specific.

CDKN2A Interacting Protein N-Terminal Like (CDKN2AIPNL) is a part of the CARF family.

CDKN2C is a member of the CDKN2 cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor family. CDKN2C cooperates with CDK4 or CDK6, and inhibits the activation of the CDK kinases, therefore acts as a cell growth regulator which regulates cell cycle G1 progression. CDKN2C suppresses the cell growth and proliferation with a correlated dependency on endogenous retinoblastoma protein RB. Studies in the knockout mice show CDKN2C takes part in regulating spermatogenesis, in addition to suppressing tumorigenesis.
