SULT1B1 enzyme in humans is encoded by the SULT1B1 gene. SULT1B1 holds a binding site for 3-prime-phosphoadenosine 5-prime-phosphosulfate, a sulfate donor, in addition to a cysteine residue conserved in the ST1 gene family of sulfotransferases. Sulfotransferases like SULT1B1 catalyze the biotransformation of a great amount of endogenous amalgams such as bile acids, neurotransmitters, steroids, and thyroid hormones, in addition to drugs and xenobiotics.

The cytokine Macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) has been identified to be secreted by the pituitary gland and the monocyte/macrophage and to play an important role in endotoxic shock. MIF has the unique property of being released from macrophages and T cells in response to physiological concentrations of glucocorticoids. The secretion of MIF is tightly regulated and decreases at high, anti-inflammatory steroid concentration.

Thus immunodetection of EBAG9 expression can be a negative prognostic indicator. EBAG9 promotes progression of bladder cancer. In rheumatoid arthritis, the deficiency of EBAG9 induces CTL infiltration through failure to evade immune attack, therefore leading to apoptosis of the synovial lining cells. EBAG9 is involved in controlling exocytosis processes. EBAG9 expression plays a role in the progression of oral squamous cell carcinoma. EBAG9 plays a specific role in premature stages of breast carcinogenesis.

VEGF is also a vasodilator and increases microvascular permeability and was originally referred to as vascular permeability factor.Elevated levels of this protein are linked to POEMS syndrome, also known as Crow-Fukase syndrome. Mutations in this gene have been associated with proliferative and nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy.

Troponin-C2 (Troponin C, skeletal muscle) is the central regulatory antigen of striated muscle contraction, and modulates the Ca2+-activation characteristics of muscle fibers. Troponin-C2 has three subunits, Troponin I(Tn-1), Troponin T(Tn-T) and Troponin C(Tn-C). Tn-I subunit inhibits actomyosin ATPase and Tn-T subunit binds tropomyosin and Tn-C, while Tn-C subunit binds calcium and overcomes the inhibitory action of the troponin complex on actin filaments. Mutations in all components of this complex have been linked with skeletal muscle disease.

Midkine is expressed during embryogenesis, showing an expression pattern that suggests functions in neurogenesis, cell migration, secondary organogenetic induction, and mesoderm-epithelial interaction.

Midkine is also a potent stimulator of collagen and glycosaminoglycan synthesis.

Interleukin-1b is produced by activated macrophages, IL-1B stimulates thymocyte proliferation by inducing il-2 release, b-cell maturation and proliferation, and fibroblast growth factor activity. IL1B proteins are involved in the inflammatory response, being identified as endogenous pyrogens, and are reported to stimulate the release of prostaglandin from synovial cells.

IL19 is a cytokine that belongs to the IL10 cytokine subfamily. IL-19 is found to be preferentially expressed in monocytes. IL-28A is distantly related to type I interferons and the IL-10 family. Expression of IL-28A is induced by viral infection which interacts with a heterodimeric class II cytokine receptor that consists of interleukin 10 receptor, beta (IL10RB) and interleukin 28 receptor, alpha. IL-28A exhibits common features with type I IFNs such as antiviral activity, antiproliferative activity and in vivo antitumour activity.
