    • Introduction

The protein encoded by this gene is a cytokine that acts as a growth and differentiation factor for both B cells and eosinophils. This cytokine is a main regulator of eosinopoiesis, eosinophil maturation and activation. The elevated production of this cytokine is reported to be related to asthma or hypereosinophilic syndromes. The receptor of this cytokine is a heterodimer, whose beta subunit is shared with the receptors for interleukine 3 (IL3) and colony stimulating factor 2 (CSF2/GM-CSF). This gene, together with those for interleukin 4 (IL4), interleukin 13 (IL13), and CSF2, form a cytokine gene cluster on chromosome 5. This cytokine, IL4, and IL13 are found to be regulated coordinately by long-range regulatory elements spread over 120 kilobases on chromosome 5q31.

    • Introduction

CD21 is expressed strongly on mature B cells, follicular dentritic cells and weakly on immature thymocytes and T lymphocytes. In B-cell ontogeny, CD21 appears after the pre-B-stage, is maintained during peripheral B-cell development and is lost upon terminal differentiation into plasma cells. CD21 expression is also gradually lost after stimulation of B cells in vitro. CD21 functions as receptor for C3d, C3dg and iC3b Complement components, for EBV and for IFNalpha. CD21 binds to CD23 and associates with CD19, CD81 and Leu13 to form a large signal-transduction complex involved in B cell activation.

    • Synonyms

      Complement receptor type 2, Cr2, Complement C3d receptor, Epstein-Barr virus receptor, EBV receptor, CD21 antigen, CR2, C3DR, CD21, SLEB9.

    • Background

Parvoviruses, small single-stranded DNA viruses, are known for their remarkable stability and diverse host range, causing infections in various animals, including humans. One of the key structural proteins in parvoviruses is VP2, a capsid protein responsible for viral entry and immune recognition. The study of Parvovirus VP2 Recombinant Protein has opened avenues for unraveling the intricacies of viral pathogenesis, host interactions, and has even spurred the development of innovative antiviral therapeutics. This research delves into the significance of Parvovirus VP2 Recombinant Protein, exploring its structural characteristics, functional roles, and its implications in both virology and therapeutic research.

      Structural Insights into VP2 Protein:

VP2, forming the viral capsid, is pivotal for parvovirus infectivity. Its unique structural features, including distinct domains responsible for receptor binding and viral entry, provide valuable insights into the viral lifecycle. Understanding the three-dimensional structure of VP2, both in its native form and as a recombinant protein, sheds light on viral assembly, stability, and the mechanisms behind host specificity.

      Functional Roles in Viral Pathogenesis:

VP2 plays a central role in determining tissue tropism and immune recognition. Its interactions with host cell receptors influence viral entry, replication, and spread. Additionally, VP2 is a target for neutralizing antibodies, making it a key player in the host immune response. By deciphering VP2's functions, researchers gain crucial knowledge about parvovirus pathogenesis, aiding in the development of antiviral strategies and vaccines.

VP2 Recombinant Protein as a Research Tool:

Recombinant VP2 proteins serve as invaluable tools in virological research. They enable scientists to study viral entry mechanisms, receptor interactions, and immune responses in a controlled laboratory setting. Utilizing VP2 recombinant proteins, researchers can investigate antiviral compounds, study the efficacy of potential vaccines, and explore the dynamics of parvovirus-host interactions, contributing significantly to our understanding of viral infections.

    • Introduction

HCV is a small 50nm, enveloped, single-stranded, positive sense RNAvirus in the family Flaviviridae.
HCV has a high rate of replication with approximately one trillion particles produced each day in an infected individual. Due to lack of proofreading by the HCV RNA polymerase, the HCV has an exceptionally high mutation rate, a factor that may help it elude the host's immune response. Hepatitis C virus is classified into six genotypes(1-6) with several subtypes within each genotype. The preponderance and distribution of HCV genotypes varies globally. Genotype is clinically important in determining potential response to interferon-based therapy and the required duration of such therapy. Genotypes 1 and 4 are less responsive to interferon-based treatment than are the other genotypes (2, 3, 5 and 6).

    • Introduction

Chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 11 (CCL11) is a small cytokine belonging to the CC chemokine family that is also known as eotaxin. CCL11 selectively recruits eosinophils by inducing their chemotaxis, and therefore, is implicated in allergic responses. The effects of CCL11 are mediated by its binding to a G-protein-linked receptor known as a chemokine receptor. Chemokine receptors for which CCL11 is a ligand include CCR2, CCR3 and CCR5. • Introduction

Influenzavirus B is a genus in the virusfamily Orthomyxoviridae. The only species in this genus is called "Influenza B virus". Influenza B virus only infects humansand seals. This limited host range is apparently in contrast with those caused by the similar Influenza virus Aas both mutate by both genetic drift and reassortment. Influenza-B virus evolves slower than A viruses and faster than C viruses. Influenza-B virus mutates at a rate 2-3 times lower than type A. However, influenza B mutates enough that lasting immunity is not possible. The Influenza B virus capsidis enveloped while its virionconsists of a matrix protein + envelope + nucleoprotein complex + nucleocapsid, and a polymerasecomplex. Influenza B is sometimes spherical and sometimes filamentous. Its 500 or so surface projections are made of hemagglutinin and neuraminidase.
The Influenza B virus is 14648 nucleotideslong and consists of eight segments of linear negative-sense, single-stranded RNA. The multipartite genome is encapsidated, each segment in a separate nucleocapsid, and the nucleocapsids are surrounded by one envelope.

    • Introduction

SARS Coronavirus is an enveloped virus containing three outer structural proteins, namely the membrane (M), envelope (E), and spike (S) proteins. Spike (S)-glycoprotein of the virus interacts with a cellular receptor and mediates membrane fusion to allow viral entry into susceptible target cells. Accordingly, S-protein plays an important role in virus infection cycle and is the primary target of neutralizing antibodies.
It has recently been shown that SARS is caused by a human coronavirus. Human coronaviruses are the major cause of upper respiratory tract illness in humans, such as the common cold. Coronaviruses are positive-stranded RNA viruses, featuring the largest viral RNA genomes known to date (27-31 kb). The first step in coronavirus infection is binding of the viral spike protein, a 139-kDa protein, to certain receptors on host cells. The spike protein is the main surface antigen of the coronavirus. The most prominent protein in the culture supernatants infected with SARS virus is a 46 kDa nucleocapsid protein. This suggests that the nucleocapsid protein is a major immunogen that may be useful for early diagnostics.

    • Introduction

Branched-chain ?-keto acid dehydrogenase E1 component ? chain (BCKDHA) is a member of the BCKDHA family. The BCKD (branched-chain alpha-keto acid dehydrogenase) complex is an inner mitochondrial enzyme complex which catalyzes the second major step in the catabolism of the branched-chain amino acids leucine, isoleucine, and valine. This complex consists of 3 catalytic components: a heterotetrameric (alpha2-beta2) branched-chain alpha-keto acid decarboxylase (E1), a dihydrolipoyl transacylase (E2), and a dihydrolipoamide dehydrogenase (E3). Mutations in the BCKDHA gene result in maple syrup urine disease, type IA.

    • Introduction

LDHA catalyzes the conversion of L-lactate and NAD to pyruvate and NADH in the final step of anaerobic glycolysis. LDHA is localized primarily in muscle tissue and is part of the lactate dehydrogenase family. Mutations in LDHA have been linked to exertional myoglobinuria. LDH1 is decreased in essential thrombocythemia. LDHA is induced through a non-genomic pathway of estrogen action. Reduction in LDH-A activity results in stimulation of mitochondrial respiration and decrease of mitochondrial membrane potential.

    • Introduction

HERVK is related with several tumors such as passenger virus, and anti-Retroviral therapy against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis/ALS has exhibited to decrease the symptoms of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis/ALS. High counts of viral sequences exist in the human genome but stay silent. Though, in pathological conditions, these viruses are produced. Human Endogenous Retrovirus-K, is produced in neurons of a subpopulation of patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis/ALS, a progressive neurodegenerative disease. The envelope protein of this HERV results in degeneration of neurons, and transgenic animals producing this protein advance an ALS-like syndrome triggered by nucleolar dysfunction in motor neurons. Reactivation of the HERVK is controlled by the transcription factor TDP-43. Therefore, therapeutic tactics against this virus alter the course of the disease.
