G antigen family D member 2 (XAGE1A) belongs to the XAGE subfamily, which is a member of the GAGE family. The GAGE genes are expressed various tumors and in a number of fetal and reproductive tissues. XAGE1A contains a nuclear localization signal and shares a sequence similarity with other GAGE/PAGE proteins. XAGE1A is strongly expressed in Ewing's sarcoma, alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma and normal testis. Due to the expression pattern and the sequence similarity, the XAGE1A protein is also a member of a family of CT (cancer-testis) antigens.

VPS29 is a member of a group of genes coding for vacuolar protein sorting (VPS) proteins which, when functionally damaged, lessens the efficient transfer of vacuolar hydrolases. VPS29 is a late Golgi transmembrane protein that operates as the sorting receptor for soluble vacuolar hydrolases, from the prevacuolar endosome back to the Golgi. Myeloid differentiation primary response gene 88 (MYD88) is a cytosolic adapter protein, which has a central role in the innate and adaptive immune response. MYD88 functions as a vital signal transducer in the interleukin-1 and Toll-like receptor signaling pathways. MYD88 acts via IRAK1, IRAK2, IRF7 and TRAF6, leading to NF-kappa-B activation, cytokine secretion and the inflammatory response. The MYD88 protein increases IL-8 transcription. MYD88 is involved in IL-18-mediated signaling pathway. Patients with defects in the MYD88 gene have an increased susceptibility to pyogenic bacterial infections.

Cytokeratin 8 belongs to the type B (basic) subfamily of high molecular weight keratins and exists in combination with keratin 18.
