Mago-Nashi Homolog B (MAGOHB) is a member of the mago nashi family. MAGOHB involved in mRNA splicing and in the nonsense-mediated decay (NMD) pathway. MAGOHB interacts with RBM8A and is a part of the exon junction complex (EJC) containing NCBP1, NCBP2, RNPS1, RBM8A, SRRM1, NXF1, UPF3B, UPF2 and ALYREF/THOC4.

This gene is a member of the EPO/TPO family and encodes a secreted, glycosylated cytokine composed of four alpha helical bundles. The protein is found in the plasma and regulates red cell production by promoting erythroid differentiation and initiating hemoglobin synthesis. This protein also has neuroprotective activity against a variety of potential brain injuries and antiapoptotic functions in several tissue types.

Alpha crystallins are composed of two gene products ; alpha-A and alpha-B, for acidic and basic, respectively. Alpha crystallins can be induced by heat shock and are members of the small heat shock protein (sHSP also known as the HSP20). They act as molecular chaperones and hold them in in large soluble aggregates. These heterogeneous aggregates consist of 30-40 subunits; the alpha-A and alpha-B subunits have a 3:1 ratio, respectively. Macrophage Inflammatory Proteins (MIP) belong to the family of chemotactic cytokines known as chemokines. SKP1 is a F-box enzyme which functions as a substrate recognition component of the SCF ubiquitin ligase complex which controls the ubiquitination of proteins involved in cell cycle progression, signal transduction and transcription.
