RPS27A is a small protein composed of 76 amino acids. RPS27A is found only in eukaryotic organisms among which shows strong sequence conservation. The RPS27A protein is present in all cell types, thus giving rise to its name.
RPS27A is found either in free form or conjugated to proteins through a covalent bond between the glycine at the C-terminal end and the side chains of lysine.

Protein tyrosine phosphatase mitochondrial 1 (PTPMT1) is a broadly expressed PTP membrane protein with high expression levels in pancreatic beta cells. The PTPMT1 protein is completely restricted to the matrix face of the inner membrane of the mitochondrion. PTPMT1 is responsible for dephosphorylating mitochondrial proteins and thus has a major role in the production of ATP. PTPMT1 exhibits a specific preference for the lipid signaling molecule phosphatidylinositol 5-phosphate as substrate.

Multiple p53 variants encode distinct isoforms, which can regulate p53 transcriptional activity. p53’s significance in multicellular organisms is in cell cycle regulation therefore it functions as a tumor suppressor that is involved in preventing cancer. p53’s role in conserving stability by preventing genome mutation has earned it descriptions such as "the guardian of the genome," "the guardian angel gene," and the "master watchman.” The name p53 refers to its evident molecular mass: it migrates as a 53kDa protein on SDS-PAGE. However, based on calculations from its amino acid residues, p53's mass is in fact only 43.7kDa. This difference is attributed to the high number of proline residues in the protein which slow its migration on SDS-PAGE, consequently making it appear larger than it actually is.

Replication Protein A2 (RPA2) is a single stranded DNA binding protein. Human RPA2 is a heterotrimeric protein containing subunits of 14, 32 and 70kDa. The RPA2 protein complex is highly conserved in eukaryotes and is crucial in DNA replication, homologous recombination and nucleotide excision repair. RPA2 C-terminus specifically interacts with the DNA repair enzyme UNG2 and repair factors XPA and Rad52, each of which functions in a different repair pathway. Additionally, RPA2 binds specifically to the SH2 domain of Stat3 in vivo, and overexpression of RPA2 corresponds to the augmented growth factor-stimulated tyrosine phosphorylation and transcription activities of Stat3.

DERP1 is a thiol protease, with a preference for substrates with a large hydrophobic side chain in the P2 position, or with basic residues. DERP1 is a C1 peptidase family member. Alterations and deletions of the FHIT (Fragile Histidine Triad) gene are strongly linked to the genesis and establishment of human tumors of the lung, cervix, breast, colon, stomach, and pancreas. The expression of FHIT is more often lost in cancers of individuals with familial mutations causing deficiency in DNA repair genes such as BRCA1, BRCA2 and MSH2. In vitro FHIT functions as a hydrolase that cleaves diadenosine triphosphate (Ap3A) to ADP and AMP. The FHIT -Ap3A enzyme-substrate complex seems to be the tumor suppressor signal. The restoration of FHIT expression in FHIT -deficient cancer cells leads to apoptosis, involving the intrinsic caspase pathway, in cancer-derived cells and in tumor xenografts.

Yersinia enterocolitica is a Gram-negative bacillus-shaped bacterium, which is a member of the Enterobacteriaceae family. Y.Enterocolitica is motile at temperatures between 22-29°C, however becomes non-motile at normal human body temperature. Y. Enterocolitica infection causes the yersiniosis disease, which is an animal-borne disease occurring in humans, as well as in a various groups of animals such as cattle, deer, pigs, and birds. Yersinia enterocolitica is a heterogeneous group of strains, which are conventionally classified by bio-typing into six bio-groups on the basis of phenotypic characteristics, and by serotyping into more than 57 “O” serogroups, on the basis of their O (lipopolysaccharide or LPS) surface antigen. Five of the six biogroups (1B and 2–5) are considered as pathogens. Nevertheless, only a few of these serogroups have been linked with disease in either humans or animals. Strains which belong to serogroups O:3 (biogroup 4), O:5,27 (biogroups 2 and 3), O:8 (biogroup 1B), and O:9 (biogroup 2) are most frequently isolated worldwide from human samples. Still, the main Y. enterocolitica serogroup in many European countries is serogroup O:3 followed by O:9, whereas the serogroup O:8 is mostly detected in the United States.

SNRPB is one of several nuclear proteins which are found in common among U1, U2, U4/U6, and U5 small ribonucleoprotein particles (snRNPs). These snRNPs are involved in pre-mRNA splicing, and the SNRPB protein may also have a role in pre-mRNA splicing or snRNP structure. SNRPB binds to the downstream cleavage product (DCP) of histone pre-mRNA in a U7 snRNP dependent manner. SNRPB functions in the U7 snRNP complex which is involved in histone 3'-end processing.

NDRG2 belongs to the N-myc downregulated gene family that is a part of the alpha/beta hydrolase superfamily. Neurotensin (NTS) is a common precursor for 2 peptides, neuromedin N and neurotensin.
