CD81 antigen isoform 1, also known as CD81, is part of the tetraspanin family. CD81 interacts directly with immunoglobulin superfamily member 8 (IGSF8, CD316) and CD36. In B cells, CD81 is part of a complex with CD21, CD19 and Leu13. Furthermore, this complex decreases the threshold for B cell activation through B cell receptors by linking Ag specific recognition and CD21 mediator recognition. While on T cells CD81 connects with CD4 and CD8 and provides a costimulatory signal with CD3.

MGMT is an enzyme that repairs O-6-methylguanine, a mutagenic DNA base damaged by endogenous and environmental alkylating agents and takes part in the cellular defense against the biological effects of O-6-methylguanine in DNA. Trypanosoma cruzi, better known as T. cruzi, is a deadly parasite that causes Chagas’ disease. This disease is a chronic infection, which primarily affects the heart and nervous system, causing severe neurological disorders, as well as swelling or denervation of nervous tissue in the heart, colon and esophagus. Chagas’ disease often goes undiagnosed due to close association of symptoms to heart disease and a variety of other disorders. The organism can circulate in the blood of infected patients for many years after infection, and can lead to transfusion-acquired infections in blood recipients from these infected donors. Contaminated blood transfusions are suspected to be the primary way in which the parasite has been transmitted to industrialized countries.

IL-18 is a proinflammatory cytokine. This cytokine can induce the IFN-gamma production of T cells. nterleukin 33 (IL-33) is a 32kDa proinflammatory cytokine that may also regulate gene transcription in producer cells. IL-33 is structurally related to IL-1, which induces helper T cells to produce type 2 cytokines and acts through the receptor IL1RL-1 (IL1 receptor-like-1), which is known also as ST2. Binding of IL-33 to this receptor activates NF-kappa-B and MAP kinases and induces in vitro Th2 cells to produce cytokines. Semaphorin-4D (CD100) is a member of the semaphorin family containing 1 Ig-like C2-type domain, 1 PSI domain and 1 Sema domain. CD100 is the cell surface receptor forPLXN1B and PLXNB2 which plays a central role in cell-cell signaling. CD100 stimulates the migration of cerebellar granule cells and of endothelial cells, regulates dendrite and axon branching and morphogenesis. Chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 18 (CCL18) is a small cytokine belonging to the CC chemokine family that was previously called PARC (pulmonary and activation-regulated chemokine). CCL18 is approximately 60% identical in amino acid sequence to CCL3. IL-22 is a member of the IL-10 family of regulatory cytokines.Members of this family share partial homology in their amino acid sequences, but they are dissimilar in their biological functions. CNTF is a polypeptide hormone whose actions appear to be restricted to the nervous system where it promotes neurotransmitter synthesis and neurite outgrowth in certain neuronal populations. The protein is a potent survival factor for neurons and oligodendrocytes and may be relevant in reducing tissue destruction during inflammatory attacks. A mutation in this gene, which results in aberrant splicing, leads to ciliary neurotrophic factor deficiency, but this phenotype is not causally related to neurologic disease. In addition to the predominant monocistronic transcript originating from this locus, the gene is also co-transcribed with the upstream ZFP91 gene. The Melanoma Inhibitory protein (MIA) was identified as an inhibitor of in vitro growth of malignant melanoma cells. The protein contains a SH3 domain.
MIA acts as a potent tumor cell growth inhibitor for malignant melanoma cells and some other neuroectodermal tumors, including gliomas, in an autocrine fashion. In a study of human melanoma cell lines with different metastatic capacity MIA mRNA expression appeared to be inversely correlated with pigmentation. MIA has been shown to represent a very sensitive and specific serum marker for systemic malignant melanoma that might be useful for staging of primary melanomas, detection of progression from localized to metastatic disease during follow-up, and monitoring therapy of advanced melanomas.

Syntaxin 4 (STX4) is a member of the syntaxin/epimorphin family of proteins. The Syntaxin family is cellular receptors for transport vesicles which participate in exocytosis in neutrophils. Syntaxin 4 is vital for normal regulation of glucose metabolism uptake in skeletal muscle and decline in STX4 protein levels lead to reduction of whole-body hormone-stimulated glucose metabolism. CD30 Ligand (TNFSF8) is a cytokine which is a member of the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) ligand family. The TNFSF8 cytokine is a ligand for TNFRSF8/CD30, which is a cell surface antigen and a marker for Hodgkin lymphoma and related hematologic malignancies. The employment of the TNFSF8 cytokine expressed on B cell surface has an inhibitory role in modulating Ig class switch. TNFSF8 enhances cell proliferation of some lymphoma cell lines, while inducing cell death and reducing cell proliferation of other lymphoma cell lines. The pleiotropic biological activities of the TNFSF8 cytokine on different CD30+ lymphoma cell lines has a pathophysiologic role in Hodgkin's and some non-Hodgkin's lymphomas.
