BRCA2 And CDKN1A Interacting Protein (BCCIP) is a nuclear protein with multiple interacting domains which remained conserved throughout the evolution. BCCIP is an important cofactor for BRCA2 in tumor suppression, and a modulator of CDK2 kinase activity via p21. BCCIP takes also part in the regulation of BRCA2 and RAD51 nuclear focus formation, doublestrand break-induced homologous recombination, and cell cycle progression.

CRAHSP1 is a serine phosphoprotein initially identified as a physiological substrate for the Ca2+-calmodulin regulated protein phosphatase calcineurin (PP2B). CRAHSP1 interacts with the STYX/dead phosphate protein in developing spermatids and is a paralog of the brain-specific mRNA-binding protein PIPPIN. It is believed to have a common role in calcium-mediated signal transduction resulting from phosphorylation on serine residues.

GroES protein is the co-chaperonin of GroES in E.coli and assists protein folding. GroEL mediated folding requires the co-chaperonin GroES which is essential for viability. GroES is composed of a single heptameric ring of 10kDa subunits that binds to the ends of the GroEL cylinder. GroES gene was amplified by PCR from E.coli and cloned into an expression vector. This protein was overexpressed in E.coli and was purified by using conventional chromatography techniques.

PTEN, a tumor suppressor, has been implicated in a large number of human tumors and is conserved from humans to worms. PTEN has a tensin like domain and a catalytic domain similar to that of the dual specificity protein tyrosine phosphatases. Characterization of PTEN protein showed that it is a phosphatase that acts on proteins and on 3-phosphorylated phosphoinositides, and can therefore modulate signal transduction pathways that involve lipid second messengers. In contrast to most of the protein tyrosine phosphatases, PTEN preferentially dephosphorylates phosphoinositide substrates. PTEN negatively regulates intracellular levels of phosphatidylinositol-3,4,5-trisphosphate in cells and acts as a tumor suppressor by negative regulation of AKT/PKB signaling pathway. Recent results indicate that at least part of its role is to regulate the activity of the serine/threonine kinase AKT/PKB, and thus influence cell survival signaling.

CXC chemokine ligand 16 (CXCL16) is a type I membrane protein, which contains a non-ELR motif-containing CXC chemokine domain in its extracellular region. Human and Mouse CXCL16 share a 70% a.a. sequence similarity within their chemokine domains and 49% overall a.a. sequence identity. Functional CXCL16 can be dropped from the cell surface as an approximately 35kDa soluble protein. CXCR6 is the functional receptor for CXCL16. CXCL16 functions as a scavenger receptor on macrophages, which specifically binds to OxLDL (oxidized low density lipoprotein), proposing that CXCL16 may be involved in pathophysiology such as atherogenesis. CXCL17, CXCL1/GRO and CXCL8/IL8 which have roles in angiogenesis, show significantly correlated expression with that of VEGF in primary lung, breast and esophageal tumors. Therefore, CXCL17 is suggested to have a role in tumor angiogenesis. The mature Rat CXCL17 shares 82%, 71% amino acid sequence identity with mouse, human CXCL17, respectively.

Myozenin 1 (MYOZ1) is a member of the myozenin family. MYOZ1 is mostly expressed in the skeletal muscle. Members of the myozenin family act as calcineurin-interacting proteins which helps tether calcineurin to the sarcomere of cardiac and skeletal muscle. In addition, concerns have been raised over the last several years about the potential for contamination of bovine products with the agent that causes mad cow disease and its human variant, Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease. Animal collagens are subject to extensive modifications that continue over the life of the molecule in the extracellular space. These differences influence both the extractability of collagens from tissue and the biophysical characteristics of these collagens. As a result, collagens isolated from tissues exhibit significant lot-to-lot variability and, as bulk materials, are often analytically intractable. Products that contain animal-derived collagen can induce potentially harmful inflammatory or immune responses in humans and pose risk of contamination with viruses or prions, potentially life-threatening pathogens. Recombinant collagens are essentially identical to the native collagen protein thereby reducing the risk of inflammation, immune response, and disease as compared to animal-sourced collagen.

Lysophospholipase-like protein 1 (LYPLAL1) is a member of the AB hydrolase 2 family. LYPLAL1 doesn’t exhibit phospholipase nor triacylglycerol lipase activity, able to hydrolyze only short chain substrates as a result of its shallow active site.
