IL2 is a secreted cytokine that is important for the proliferation of T and B lymphocytes. The receptor of this cytokine is a heterotrimeric protein complex whose gamma chain is also shared by interleukin 4 (IL4) and interleukin 7 (IL7). The expression of this gene in mature thymocytes is monoallelic, which represents an unusual regulatory mode for controlling the precise expression of a single gene. The targeted disruption of a similar gene in mice leads to ulcerative colitis-like disease, which suggests an essential role of this gene in the immune response to antigenic stimuli.

MYL2 regulatory light chain is associated with cardiac myosin beta (or slow) heavy chain. Ca+ activates the phosphorylation of regulatory light chain that in turn activates contraction. Mutations in this MYL2 gene are related with mid-left ventricular chamber type hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. MYL2 is an essential protein that plays a role in the regulation of myosin ATPase activity in smooth muscle. FIS1 is part of the mitochondrial complex that promotes mitochondrial fission. FIS1 induces cytochrome C discharge from the mitochondrion to the cytosol, eventually leading to apoptosis. FIS1 participates in peroxisomal growth and division. The C terminus is required for mitochondrial localisation, while the N teminus is necessary for mitochondrial fission.

Human and mouse LIF exhibit a 78% identity in its amino acid sequence.

SH2D1A acts as an inhibitor of the signaling lymphocyte activation molecule (SLAM) self-association. The SH2D1A protein is expressed at a high level in the thymus and the lung, with a lower level of expression in the spleen and the liver. The SH2D1A protein contains an SH2 domain and a short tail. SH2D1A has a key role in the bidirectional stimulation of T and B cells. Defects in the SH2D1A gene cause the X-linked lymphoproliferative disease (XLPD), aka Duncan disease. The XLPD is distinguished by a rare congenital immunodeficiency following an EBV infection (Epstein-Barr virus).

Cytokeratin 17 also known as KRT17 is a type I cytokeratin. KRT17 is found in nail beds, hair follicles, sebaceous glands, and other epidermal appendages. Mutations in KRT17 lead to Jackson-Lawler type pachyonychia congenita and steatocystoma multiplex. KRT17 takes part in the formation and maintenance of a variety of skin appendages, particularly in determining shape and orientation of hair. KRT17 also modulates the function of TNF-alpha in the precise context of hair cycling. Moreover, KRT17 regulates protein synthesis and epithelial cell growth all through binding to the adapter protein SFN and by stimulating Akt/mTOR pathway.

AURKA (Aurora Kinase A) belongs to the mitotic serine/threonine kinases family. AURKA is a cell cycle-regulated kinase which may be involved in microtubule formation and/or stabilization at the spindle pole during chromosome segregation. AURKA is found at the centrosome in interphase cells and at the spindle poles in mitosis. Since the AURKA expression is cell-cycle regulated, it is low in G1/S, it accumulates during G2/M, and it decreases rapidly after. AURKA is involved in important processes during mitosis and meiosis whose proper function is essential for healthy cell proliferation. In addition, AURKA plays an essential role in tumourigenesis and is overexpressed in various types of cancers. AURKA is strongly expressed in the testis, colon, ovarian, prostate, neuroblastoma, breast and cervical cancer cell lines and weakly in skeletal muscle, thymus and spleen. AURKA interacts with its substrates BORA and ARHGEF2, as well as with TACC1 and CPEB1.
Defects in the AURKA gene cause numerical centrosome aberrations including aneuploidy. AURKA overexpression has been linked to chromosomal instability in colorectal cancer. AURKA expression may have a prognostic significance in ovarian carcinoma.

Interleukin-21 receptor, also known as IL21R is a member of the type I cytokine receptors family. IL21R forms a heterodimeric receptor complex with the common gamma-chain, a receptor subunit which is also shared by the receptors for interleukin 2, 4, 7, 9, and 15. Furthermore, IL21 receptor transduces the growth promoting signal of IL21, and is significant for the proliferation as well as differentiation of T cells, B cells, and natural killer (NK) cells. Cofilin is a family of actin-binding proteins which disassembles actin filaments. It is a widely distributed intracellular actin-modulating protein that binds and depolymerizes filamentous F-actin and inhibits the polymerization of monomeric G-actin in a pH-dependent manner. It is involved in the translocation of actin-cofilin complex from cytoplasm to nucleus.

Chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 5 (CXCL5) is a small cytokine belonging to the CXC chemokine family that is also known as epithelial-derived neutrophil-activating peptide 78 (ENA-78). It is produced following stimulation of cells with the inflammatory cytokines interleukin-1 or tumor necrosis factor-alpha. Expression of CXCL5 has also been observed in eosinophils, and can be inhibited with the type II IFN. This chemokine stimulates the chemotaxis of neutrophils possesses angiogenic properties. It elicits these effects by interacting with the cell surface chemokine receptor CXCR2. The gene for CXCL5 is encoded on four exons and is located on human chromosome 4 amongst several other CXC chemokine genes. CXCL5 has been implicated in connective tissue remodelling.

Human interleukin family 1, member 5 (IL-1F5 / FIL1-delta) belongs to the interleukin 1 cytokine family. Alpha crystallins are composed of two gene products ; alpha-A and alpha-B, for acidic and basic, respectively. Alpha crystallins can be induced by heat shock and are members of the small heat shock protein (sHSP also known as the HSP20). They act as molecular chaperones and hold them in large soluble aggregates. These heterogeneous aggregates consist of 30-40 subunits; the alpha-A and alpha-B subunits have a 3:1 ratio, respectively. Interleukin-2 Receptor Gamma (IL2RG) is a cytokine receptor sub-unit which is common to the receptor complexes for at least six different interleukin receptors. IL2RG is located on the surface of immature blood-forming cells in bone marrow. One end of the IL2RG protein resides outside of the cell where it binds to cytokines and the other end of the IL2RG protein resides in the interior of the cell where it transmits signals to the cell's nucleus. IL2RG teams up with other proteins to direct blood-forming cells to form lymphocytes. lysozyme G-like 2 and LYGH (LYG2), is a member of the glycosyl hydrolase 23 family. Lysozyme takes part in human innate immunity by causing bacterial cell lysis. LYG2 contains a SLT domain, a protein domain present in bacterial lytic transglycosylase (SLT) and in eukaryotic lysozymes (GEWL). SLT domain catalyzes the cleavage of the beta-1,4-glycosidic bond between N-acetylmuramic acid (MurNAc) and N-acetyglucosamine (GlcNAc).

SNTA1 is a member of the syntrophin gene family. SNTA1 is a peripheral membrane protein found linked with dystrophin and dystrophin-related proteins. Dystrophin is a large, rod-like cytoskeletal protein located at the inner surface of muscle fibers. Dystrophin is absent in Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy patients, however it is present in reduced amounts in Becker Muscular Dystrophy patients. Syntrophins are cytoplasmic peripheral membrane scaffold proteins and components of the dystrophin-associated protein complex. The N-terminal PDZ domain of SNTA1 interacts with the C-terminus of the pore-forming alpha subunit (SCN5A) of the cardiac sodium channel Nav1.5.
