The cytokine Macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) has been identified to be secreted by the pituitary gland and the monocyte/macrophage and to play an important role in endotoxic shock. MIF has the unique property of being released from macrophages and T cells in response to physiological concentrations of glucocorticoids. The secretion of MIF is tightly regulated and decreases at high, anti-inflammatory steroid concentration.

BCL2 Like 10 (BCL2L10) is a member of the BCL-2 protein family. BCL2 family members form hetero or homodimers and serve as anti or pro-apoptotic regulators which are involved in a wide variety of cellular activities. BCL2L10 includes the conserved BH4, BH1 and BH2 domains. BCL2L10 interacts with other members of BCL2 protein family including BCL2, BCL2L1/BCL-X(L), and BAX. BCL2L10 overexpression suppresses cell apoptosis possibly through the prevention of cytochrome C release from the mitochondria, and consequently activating caspase-3 activation.

Interleukin-1 ra is a member of the interleukin 1 cytokine family. IL1RAinhibits the activities of interleukin 1, alpha (IL1A) and interleukin 1, beta (IL1B), and modulates a variety of interleukin 1 related immune and inflammatory responses. IL1RAand five other closely related cytokine genes form a gene cluster spanning approximately 400 kb on chromosome 2. A polymorphism of this gene is reported to be associated with increased risk of osteoporotic fractures and gastric cancer.

RING1- and YY1-binding protein (RYBP) belongs to the polycomb group (PcG). RYBP interacts with MDM2 and decreases MDM2-mediated p53 ubiquitination, which leads to stabilization of p53 and an increase in p53 activity. RYBP causes cell-cycle arrest and is involved in the p53 response to DNA damage. RYBP interacts with RING1, YY1, Caspase 10, E2F3, E2F2, Mdm2, Abl gene and CBX2. RYBP inhibits ubiquitination and subsequent degradation of TP53, and thus has a role in regulating transcription of TP53 target genes. RYBP may also be involved in the regulation of the transcription as a repressor of the transcriptional activity of E4TF1. RYBP may bind to DNA, and promote apoptosis.

Activity-regulated cytoskeleton-associated protein (ARC) takes part in the regulation of cell morphology and cytoskeletal organization and is required for consolidation of synaptic plasticity as well as formation of long-term memory. ARC regulates endocytosis of AMPA receptors in response to synaptic activity and is also required for homeostatic synaptic scaling of AMPA receptors. ARC is required in the stress fiber dynamics and cell migration.

Interleukin 11 Receptor Subunit Alpha (IL11RA) which belongs to the hematopoietic cytokine receptor family is a receptor for interleukin-11. Interleukin 11 is a stromal cell-derived cytokine which is a member of a family of pleiotropic and redundant cytokines that employ the gp130 transducing subunit in their high affinity receptors. This specific receptor is quite similar to ciliary neurotrophic factor, since both contain an extracellular region with a two-domain structure composed of an immunoglobulin-like domain and a cytokine receptor-like domain. The receptor systems for IL6, LIF, OSM, CNTF, IL11 and CT1 are able to utilize IL6ST for initiating signal transmission. The IL11/IL11RA/IL6ST complex is involved in the control of proliferation and/or differentiation of skeletogenic progenitor or additional mesenchymal cells.

ITGB4 (integrin beta-4 isoform 1) belongs to the Integrin beta family. ITGB4 forms noncovalent heterodimers with Integrin alpha 6 and takes part in the formation of epithelial hemidesmosomes. ITGB4 has a vital structural role in the hemidesmosome of epithelial cells and is needed for the regulation of keratinocyte motility & polarity. ITGB4 leans towards the association with alpha 6 subunit and is expected to take a key role in the biology of invasive carcinoma.

LAMTOR4 is implicated in amino acid sensing and activation of mTORC1, which is a signaling complex promoting cell growth in response to growth factors, energy levels, and amino acids. LAMTOR4 is activated by amino acids via a mechanism which involves the lysosomal V-ATPase, the Ragulator functions as a guanine nucleotide exchange factor activating the small GTPases Rag. Activated Ragulator and Rag GTPases both function as a scaffold recruiting mTORC1 to lysosomes where it is sequentially activated.

Ubiquitin D (UBD) is an ubiquitin-like modifier (UBL) of the ubiquitin protein family. UBD is an ubiquitin-like protein which can form covalent conjugates, thus targeting proteins for degradation by the 26S proteasome. It is assumed that, UBD has roles in regulation of cell cycle, innate immunity, and apoptosis. UBD is a TNF-a inducible ubiquitin-like protein with a presumed role in the immune response.

CAMP Responsive Element Binding Protein 3-Like 2, also known as CREB3L2 belongs to the oasis bZIP transcription factor family. Members of this family are able to dimerize however from homodimers only. CREB3L2 is a transcriptional activator. Translocations between CREB3L2 on chromosome 7 and the gene fused in sarcoma on chromosome 16 can be found in some tumors. One disease which is associated with CREB3L2 is myxofibrosarcoma.

Ribosomal protein S14 (RPS14) is a ribosomal protein, which is a member of the S11P family of ribosomal proteins. Ribosomes are the organelles which catalyze protein synthesis and composed of a small and a large subunit that consist of over 80 different ribosomal proteins. RPS14 is a component of the 40S subunit which localizes to the cytoplasm.

Human Factor IX also called Christmas-Factor is a glycoprotein, which is synthesized in the liver and belongs to the serine proteases system and is part of the S1 peptidase family.

Factor-IX has a N-terminus region which contains 12xGla residues which asist the calcium dpendant binding of Factor-IX to the phospholipid surface. Factor-IX is activated by either factor XIa or the factor VIIa/tissue factor/phospholipid complex. Cleavage yields the intermediate IXa, which is subsequently converted to the fully active form IXab.

Coagulation factor IX is activated by interaction with the erythrocyte membrane, causing intrinsic coagulation. Chaperones & lectins act simultaniously to guarantee the proper folding of Factor-IX and the retention of mutant molecules. Human Factor IX, activated by either the Contact or Tissue Factor Pathway, is responsible for the activation of Factor X to Xa.

GH is a member of the somatotropin/prolactin family of hormones which play an important role in growth control. The gene, along with four other related genes, is located at the gGH locus on chromosome 17 where they are interspersed in the same transcriptional orientation; an arrangement which is thought to have evolved by a series of gene duplications. The five genes share a remarkably high degree of sequence identity. Alternative splicing generates additional isoforms of each of the five GHs, leading to further diversity and potential for specialization. This particular family member is expressed in the pituitary but not in placental tissue as is the case for the other four genes in the GH locus. Mutations in or deletions of the gene lead to GH deficiency and short stature.

Complement Factor B, also known as CFB, encodes complement factor B which is a component of the alternative pathway of complement activation. Factor B circulates in the blood as a single chain polypeptide. Once the alternative pathway is activated it is cleaved by complement factor D yielding the noncatalytic chain Ba and the catalytic subunit Bb. The active subunit Bb is a serine protease which connects with C3b to form the alternative pathway C3 convertase. Also, Bb is involved in the proliferation of preactivated B lymphocytes, while Ba inhibits their proliferation.

Vascular endothelial growth factor is an important signaling protein involved in both angiogenesis and vasculogenesis.VEGF activity has been mostly studied on cells of the vascular endothelium, although it does have effects on a number of other cell types (e.g. stimulation monocyte/macrophage migration, neurons, cancer cells, kidney epithelial cells ).VEGF mediates increased vascular permeability, induces angiogenesis, vasculogenesis and endothelial cell growth, promotes cell migration, and inhibits apoptosis. In vitro, VEGF has been shown to stimulate endothelial cell mitogenesis and cell migration. VEGF is also a vasodilator and increases microvascular permeability and was originally referred to as vascular permeability factor.
Elevated levels of VEGF is linked to POEMS syndrome, also known as Crow-Fukase syndrome. Mutations in VEGF have been associated with proliferative and nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy.

Stomatin (STOM) is a part of a highly conserved family of integral membrane proteins. STOM is a membrane protein involved in regulation of monovalent cation transport through lipid membranes which regulates ACCN1 and ACCN3 gating. STOM is a major lipid-raft component of erythrocytes and epithelial cells, and an abundant platelet protein which acts as a cytoskeletal anchor.

Cytokeratin 8 belongs to the type B (basic) subfamily of high molecular weight keratins and exists in combination with keratin 18. Cytokeratin 8 is primarily found in the non-squamous epithelia and is present in majority of adenocarcinomas and ductal carcinomas. It is absent in squamous cell carcinomas. Hepatocellular carcinomas are defined by the use of antibodies that recognize only cytokeratin polypeptides 8 and 18.
