Janus Kinase 2 (JAK2) is a protein tyrosine kinase which takes part in a specific subset of cytokine receptor signaling pathways such as cell growth, development, differentiation or histone modifications. JAK2 is linked with the prolactin receptor and is necessary for responses to gamma interferon. Only the alpha isoform has been identified for FGFR-3 and FGFR-4. Additional splicing events for FGFR-1 to -3, involving the C-terminal half of the IgIII domain encoded by two mutually exclusive alternative exons, generate FGF receptors with alternative IgIII domains (IIIb and IIIc). A IIIa isoform which is a secreted FGF binding protein containing only the N-terminal half of the IgIII domain plus some intron sequences has also been reported for FGFR-1. Mutations in FGFR-1 to -3 have been found in patients with birth defects involving craniosynostosis.

Mutations in this gene have been linked to Peutz-Jeghers syndrome- an autosomal dominant disorder. It is characterized by the growth of polyps in the gastrointestinal tract, pigmented macules on the skin and mouth, and other neoplasms.

Testis-specific serine/threonine-protein kinase 6 (TSSK6) is an intronless gene, which belongs to the CAMK Ser/Thr protein kinase family. The TSSK6 protein contains one protein kinase domain. TSSK6 is highly expressed in the testis and lowly expressed in the colon, prostate, thymus, small intestine, and peripheral blood leukocytes. TSSK6 interacts with the heatshock proteins HSPA8, HSPCB, and HAPA1A; these interactions seem to be essential for TSSK6 kinase activity. TSSK6 plays a role in DNA condensation during postmeiotic chromatin remodeling. In addition, TSSK6 is required for sperm production and function.

Thymidylate kinase (DTYMK) is involved in pyrimidine metabolism. Specifically, DTYMK catalyzes the ATP-dependent conversion of dTMP (deoxythymidine monophosphate) to dTDP (deoxythymidine diphosphate), which then acts as one of the 4 nucleotides in DNA. PDXK converts vitamin B6 to Pyridoxal-5-phosphate (PLP), which is a vital cofactor in the intermediate metabolism of amino acids and neurotransmitters. PDXK is cytoplasmic and probably acts as a homodimer. The biological validity of the alternatively spliced transcript variants has not been determined.

All family members are type I transmembrane glycoprotein that has an extracellular domain which contains two cysteine-rich domains separated by a spacer region that is involved in ligand-binding, and a cytoplasmic domain which has a membrane-proximal tyrosine kinase domain and a C-terminal tail with multiple tyrosine autophosphorylation sites. The human EGF R gene encodes a 1210 amino acid (aa) residue precursor with a 24 aa putative signal peptide, a 621 aa extracellular domain, a 23 aa transmembrane domain, and a 542 aa cytoplasmic domain. Akt1, also known as "Akt" or protein kinaseB (PKB) is an important molecule in mammaliancellular signaling.
In humans, there are three genes in the "Akt family": Akt1, Akt2, and Akt3. These enzymesare members of the serine/threonine-specific protein kinasefamily (EC2.7.11.1).
Akt1 is involved in cellular survival pathways, by inhibiting apoptoticprocesses. Akt1 is also able to induce protein synthesispathways, and is therefore a key signaling protein in the cellular pathways that lead to skeletal muscle hypertrophy, and general tissue growth. ILK1 (Integrin-linked kinase) is a serine/threonine protein kinase, containing 4 ankyrin-like repeats. ILK1 over-expression has been documented in a wide variety of human malignancies.
