RCN1 is a calcium-binding protein which binds calcium and controls calcium-dependent activities in the endoplasmic reticulum lumen or post-ER compartment. RCN1 withholds six conserved regions with similarity to a high affinity Ca(+2)-binding motif, the EF-hand.
High conservation of amino acid residues outside of these motifs, in relation to mouse reticulocalbin, is consistent with a biochemical function further to that of calcium binding. In human endothelial and prostate cancer cell lines RCN1 protein is localized to the plasma membrane.

Annexin A10 (ANXA10) is a member of the annexin family of calcium-binding proteins that contains a few members which are described by a conserved core domain that binds phospholipids in a Ca2+-dependent manner, and a unique amino-terminal region, which may convene binding specificity. Sarcoglycan Delta (SGCD) is one of the four known components of the sarcoglycan complex, which is a subcomplex of the dystrophin-glycoprotein complex (DGC) and is expressed mainly in skeletal and cardiac muscle. DGC forms a link between the F-actin cytoskeleton and the extracellular matrix. Syntaxin is membrane integrated Q-SNARE protein participating in exocytosis. Syntaxin is composed of an N-terminal regulatory domain (Habc), a SNARE domain (known as H3), and a single C-terminal transmembrane domain. Transgelin 2 (TAGLN2) is one of the earliest markers of differentiated smooth muscle. TAGLN2 contains a calponin like repeat and a calponin-homology (CH) domain. TAGLN2 is downregulated in some transformed cell lines, indicating that a reduction of transgelin expression may be an early indicator of the onset of transformation. TAGLN2 also binds actin, causing actin fibers to gel within minutes of binding. The binding of transgelin to actin occurs at a ratio of 1:6 actin monomers.

Translin is a DNA and RNA binding protein that identifies specifically preserved target sequences at the breakpoint junction of chromosomal translocations. TSN forms a ring-shaped configuration, that is in charge of DNA binding, and in addition has a leucine zipper motif, which is believed to assist TSN to form dimers. Chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 13 (CCL13 / MCP-4) is a small cytokine belonging to the CC chemokine family. The MCP-4 gene is located on human chromosome 17 within a large cluster of other CC chemokines. MCP-4 induces chemotaxis in monocytes, eosinophils, T lymphocytes, and basophils by binding cell surface G-protein linked chemokine receptors such as CCR2, CCR3 and CCR5. Activity of the MCP-4 chemokine has been implicated in allergic reactions such as asthma. MCP-4 can be induced by the inflammatory cytokines interleukin-1 and TNF-a.

Parathyroid hormone (PTH), or parathormone, is secreted by the parathyroid glands as a polypeptide containing 84 amino acids. Bone resorption is the normal destruction of bone by osteoclasts, which are indirectly stimulated by PTH. Stimulation is indirect since osteoclasts do not have a receptor for PTH; rather, PTH binds to osteoblasts, the cells responsible for creating bone. Binding stimulates osteoblasts to increase their expression of RANKL, which can bind to osteoclast precursors containing RANK, a receptor for RANKL. The binding of RANKL to RANK stimulates these precursors to fuse, forming new osteoclasts which ultimately enhances the resorption of bone.
In the kidney- It enhances active reabsorption of calcium from distal tubules and the thick ascending limb.
In the intestine- It enhances the absorption of calcium in the intestine by increasing the production of vitamin D and upregulating the enzyme responsible for 1-alpha hydroxylationof 25-hydroxy vitamin D, converting vitamin D to its active form (1,25-dihydroxy vitamin D) which effects the actual absorption of calcium (as Ca2+ ions) by the intestine via calbindin.

Alpha crystallins are composed of two gene products ; alpha-A and alpha-B, for acidic and basic, respectively. Alpha crystallins can be induced by heat shock and are members of the small heat shock protein (sHSP also known as the HSP20). They act as molecular chaperones and hold them in in large soluble aggregates. These heterogeneous aggregates consist of 30-40 subunits; the alpha-A and alpha-B subunits have a 3:1 ratio, respectively. Two additional function of a-crystallins are an autokinase activity and participation in the intracellular architecture. Alpha-B is expressed widely in many tissues and organs and occurs in many neurological diseases.

E2 17-beta-dehydrogenase 8 (HSD17B8) is a member of the short-chain dehydrogenases/reductases (SDR) family. In mice, the HSD17B8 protein is a 17-beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase which can regulate the concentration of biologically active estrogens and androgens. HSD17B8 is preferentially an oxidative enzyme and inactivates E2, testosterone, and DHT. However, the HSD17B8 enzyme has some reductive activity and can synthesize E2 from E1. HSD17B8 may have a role in biosynthesis of fatty acids in mitochondria.

Integrase is an enzyme produced by the HIV which enables its genetic material to be integrated into the DNA of the infected cell and is a key component in the pre-integration complex. HIV integrase contains 3 domains, an N-terminal HH-CC zinc fingerdomainwhich is partially responsible for multimerization, a central catalytic domain and a C-terminal domain. Both Central catalytic domain and C-terminal domains have been shown to bind both viral and cellular DNA. No crystal structure data exists with Integrase bound to its DNA substrates. HIV-1 integrase functions as a dimeror a tetramer. Additionally, several host cellular proteins interact with integrase and may facilitate the integration process.

Natriuretic Peptide A (NPPA) is a part of the natriuretic peptide family and is involved in cardiovascular homeostasis through regulation of natriuresis, diuresis, and vasodilation. NPPA is synthesized as a great precursor which releases a peptide from the N-terminus with similarity to vasoactive peptide, cardiodilatin, and another peptide from the C-terminus with natriuretic-diuretic activity.
