    • Introduction

WIF1 binds to wnt proteins and inhibits their activities. WIF1 plays a role in mesoderm segmentation. WNT proteins are extracellular signaling molecules that take part in the control of embryonic development & cancer. WIF1 protein contains a WNT inhibitory factor (WIF) domain and 5 epidermal growth factor (EGF)-like domains. WIF1 takes part in mesoderm segmentation. WIF1 protein is found to be present in fish, amphibia and mammals. WIF1 is a recurrent target in human salivary gland oncogenesis. Downregulation of WIF1 takes part in the development and progression of pleomorphic adenomas. WIF1 is a tumor suppressor, specifically in nonfunctioning pituitary tumors.

    • Introduction

Spindle And Kinetochore Associated Complex Subunit 1 (SKA1) is a part of the kinetochore-microtubule interface which associates with microtubules as oligomeric assemblies. • Introduction

Once a cluster of cancer cells reaches a diameter of about 1–2 mm, it must develop a blood supply in order to grow larger. Given that diffusion is no longer adequate to supply the cancerous cells with oxygen and nutrients and to remove wastes. Therefore, these cells secrete substances that promote the formation of new blood vessels (angiogenesis), which are vital for the growth and persistence of solid tumors and their metastases.
The production of several angiogenic factors (FGF-a, FGF-b, VEGF and VPF) is upregulated by tumors in order to stimulate angiogenesis. However, numerous malignant tumors also generate inhibitors of angiogenesis which include angiostatin and thrombospondin. The angiogenic phenotype is basically the end result of a net balance between the positive and negative regulators of neovascularization mentioned above. Endostatin’s role is to inhibit endothelial proliferation, therefore it is an effective angiogenesis inhibitor.

    • Introduction

Plasma protease C1 inhibitor (SERPING1) is a part of the serpin superfamily of serine protease inhibitors. SERPING1 plays an important role in regulating activation of both the complement and contact systems. That isdue to the fact that SERPING1 regulates the activation of complement factor C1 in addition to the activity of activated C1 by coupling with the active catalytic site at the light chains of C1r and C1s. SERPING1 insufficiency results in hereditary angioedema, which is characterized by recurrent episodes of localized angioedema of the skin, gastrointestinal mucosa or upper respiratory mucosa.

    • Introduction

Glycolate oxidase (HAO1) is a part of the superfamily of the alpha hydroxy acid oxidases (HAO) enzymes. HAO1 catalyses the FMN mediated oxidation of glycolate to glyoxylate and glyoxylate to oxalate by reducing oxygen to hydrogen peroxide. HAO1 is expressed mainly in the liver and pancreas and is most active on twocarbon substrates such as glycolate. HAO1 isthe main cause of hyperoxaluria, a disorder in which large deposits of calcium oxalate form kidney stones.
