Glycophorin C, also known as GYPC, is an integral membrane glycoprotein. GYPC is a minor species which is carried by human erythrocytes, however plays an important role in regulating the mechanical stability of red cells. Numeral glycophorin C mutations have been described. The Gerbich and Yus phenotypes are due to deletion of exon 3 & 2, respectively. The Webb & Duch antigens, also identified as glycophorin D, result from single point mutations of the glycophorin C gene. The glycophorin C protein has very slight homology with glycophorins A & B.

Zwilch Kinetochore Protein which is also known as ZWILCH is a part of the ZWILCH family. ZWILCH is a vital part of the mitotic checkpoint. ZWILCH prevents the cells from exiting mitosis prematurely. Cathepsin H is a lysosomal cysteine proteinase important in the overall degradation of lysosomal proteins. Cathepsin H is composed of a dimer of disulfide-linked heavy and light chains, both produced from a single protein precursor. Cathepsin H, which belongs to the peptidase C1 protein family, can act both as an aminopeptidase and as an endopeptidase. Increased expression of the Cathepsin H gene has been associated with malignant progression of prostate tumors.

HECT and RLD Domain Containing E3 Ubiquitin Protein Ligase 5 (HERC5) is a member of the HERC family of ubiquitin ligases, found in a cluster of HERC family genes on chromosome 4. HERC5 is a protein with a HECT domain and 5 RCC1 repeats. The HERC5 protein localizes to the cytoplasm and perinuclear region and serves as an INF-induced E3 protein ligase that mediates ISGylation of protein targets. HERC5 exhibits antiviral activity towards HIV-1, influenza A virus and human papillomavirus. HERC5 is a major E3 ligase for ISG15 conjugation. HERC5 also serves as a positive regulator of innate antiviral response in cells induced by INF. Pro-inflammatory cytokines upregulate HERC5 in endothelial cells. HERC5 is physically connected with polyribosomes, broadly modifies recently synthesized proteins in a cotranslational fashion.

DHH is part of the Hedgehog family which encodes signaling molecules that are involved in regulating morphogenesis. DHH protein is a precursor that is autocatalytically cleaved, the N-terminal portion is soluble and contains the signalling activity while the C-terminal portion is involved in precursor processing. Additionally, the C-terminal product covalently attaches a cholesterol moiety to the N-terminal product, restricting the N-terminal product to the cell surface and preventing it from freely diffusing throughout the organism. Caspase Recruitment Domain Family, Member 17 (CARD17) is a regulator of procaspase-1/CASP1 activation involved in the regulation of the proteolytic maturation of pro-IL-1beta/IL1B and its release throughout inflammation. Ferritin is composed of 24 self-assembled polypeptide subunits of the heavy and light ferritin chains and is characterized by the capacity to remove Fe (II) from solution in the presence of oxygen.
Ferritin light polypeptide protein is the main intracellular iron storage protein in prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Variation in ferritin subunit composition influence the rates of iron uptake and release in various tissues. A key function of ferritin is the storage of iron in a soluble and nontoxic state. Defects in this light chain ferritin gene are associated with several neurodegenerative diseases and hyper ferrit anemia-cataract syndrome.

Centromere Protein U, also known as CENPU is a specialized chromatin domain, present throughout the cell cycle. CENPU performs as a platform on which the transient assembly of the kinetochore takes place during mitosis. CENPU plays a major role in the correct PLK1 localization to the mitotic kinetochores. A scaffold protein is responsible for the first recruitment and maintenance of the kinetochore PLK1 population until its degradation. CENPU is also implicated in transcriptional repression.

Human Ubquitin Conjugating Enzyme 9 (Ubc9) is a member of the E2 family and is specific for the conjugation of SUMO to a variety of target proteins. SUMO conjugation to target proteins is mediated by a different, but analogous, pathway to ubiquitinylation. This E2 is unusual in that it interacts directly with protein substrates that are modified by sumolyation, and may play a role in substrate recognition. Ubc9 can mediate the conjugation of SUMO-1 to a variety of proteins including RanGAP1, I?B?, and PML without the requirement of an E3 ligase.

Chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 2 (CXCL2) is a small cytokine belonging to the CXC chemokine family that is also called macrophage inflammatory protein 2-alpha (MIP2-alpha), Growth-regulated protein beta (Gro-beta) and Gro oncogene-2 (Gro-2). CXCL2 is 90% identical in amino acid sequence as a related chemokine, CXCL1. This chemokine is secreted by monocytes and macrophages and is chemotactic for polymorphonuclear leukocytes and hematopoietic stem cells. The gene for CXCL2 is located on human chromosome 4 in a cluster of other CXC chemokines. CXCL2 mobilizes cells by interacting with a cell surface chemokine receptor called CXCR2.

TNFSF15 is a cytokine that belongs to the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) ligand family. This protein is abundantly expressed in endothelial cells, but is not expressed in either B or T cells. The expression of TNFSF15 is inducible by TNF and IL-1 alpha. This cytokine is a ligand for receptor TNFRSF25 and decoy receptor TNFRSF21/DR6. It can activate NF-kappaB and MAP kinases, and acts as an autocrine factor to induce apoptosis in endothelial cells. TNFSF15 is also found to inhibit endothelial cell proliferation, and thus may function as an angiogenesis inhibitor. An additional isoform encoded by an alternatively spliced transcript variant has been reported but the sequence of this transcript has not been determined.

Glycinin Ara h 3 is a seed storage protein, 11 S globulin and trypsin inhibitor from peanut. Each subunit of the hexamer is composed of an acidic and a basic chain derived from a single precursor and linked by a disulfide bond. Ara h 3 and Ara h 4 are isoforms. Glycinin is the source of sulfur-containing amino acids in seed meals and it exists in the seeds of many leguminous and non-leguminous plants.

Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is an important signaling protein involved in vessel formation As its name implies, VEGF activity has been mostly studied on cells of the vascular endothelium, although it does have effects on a number of other cell types (e.g. stimulation monocyte/macrophage migration, neurons, cancer cells, kidney epithelial cells ). VEGF mediates increased vascular permeability, induces vasculogenesis and endothelial cell production, promotes cell migration, and inhibits apoptosis. In vitro, VEGF has been shown to stimulate endothelial cell mitogenesis and cell migration. VEGF is also a vasodilator and increases microvascular permeability and was originally referred to as vascular permeability factor. VEGF is located in normal cartilage though only osteoarthritic cartilage expresses the VEGF receptors, NP1, VEGFR1 and VEGFR2. The VEGF level in the culture media from OA chondrocytes was more than 3 folds higher than in media from normal chondrocytes

Interleukin-3 is a pleiotropic cytokine produced primarily by activated T cells. IL-3 is thought to function via specific cell surface receptors to stimulate the proliferation, differentiation and survival of haematopoietic cell lines. IL-3 has also been shown to affect the functional activity of a variety of other cell types including mast cells, eosinophils, megakaryocytes and basophils.

Muted homolog (MUTED) is a component of the BLOC-1 complex, a complex which is necessary for normal biogenesis of lysosome-related organelles (LRO), such as platelet dense granules and melanosomes. The BLOC-1 complex is needed to steer membrane protein cargos into vesicles assembled at cell bodies for release into neurites and nerve terminals. In addition, this complex, along with SNARE proteins, is suggested to be involved in neurite extension. MUTED also interacts with pallidin, dystrobrevin binding protein 1 and CNO/cappuccino. MUTED is ubiquitously expressed with higher levels in the brain, bone marrow, kidney, and liver and lower levels in the skeletal muscle.

CAMP belongs to the antimicrobial peptide family, contains highly conserved N-terminal signal peptide, a cathelin domain and a structurally variable cationic antimicrobial peptide that produced by extracellular proteolysis from the C-terminus. Melanoma-associated antigen D1 (MAGED1) belongs to the melanoma antigen gene (MAGE) family and expressed in virtually all normal adult tissues. SIGLEC10 is an adhesion molecule that mediates sialic-acid dependent binding to cells.SIGLEC10 is a ligand for CD52, the target of the therapeutic monoclonal antibody Alemtuzumab. Also, it binds to Vascular adhesion protein 1 (VAP-1) and to the co-stimulatory molecule CD24.This binding is modulated by cis interactions of SIGLEC10 with sialated molecules on the same cell.
