Prohibitin (PHB) is an evolutionarily conserved gene that is ubiquitously expressed and which Mutations have been linked to sporadic breast cancer. PHB is thought to be a negative regulator of cell proliferation and may be a tumor suppressor. Prohibitin is expressed as two transcripts with changeable lengths of 3' untranslated region. The longer transcript is present at higher levels in proliferating tissues and cells, proposing that this longer 3' untranslated region functions as a trans-acting regulatory RNA.

60S ribosomal protein L8 (RPL8) is a member of the ribosomal protein L2P family. Ribosomes consist of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. RPL8 is found in the cytoplasm and exists as a component of the 60S subunit where it is assumed to have role in aminoacyl-tRNA binding, specifically at the ribosomal subunit interface. In rats, the RPL8 protein connects with the 5.8S rRNA, and possibly participates in the binding of aminoacyl-tRNA, and is a component of the elongation factor 2-binding site at the ribosomal subunit interface.

TEN1 is part of a complex that binds to single-stranded DNA and is necessary in order to protect telomeres from DNA degradation (CST complex). The CST complex binds single-stranded DNA with high affinity in a sequence-independent mode, while isolated subunits bind DNA with low affinity by themselves. Obestatin is a peptide hormone - a relatively small protein. It is encoded by the same gene that also encodes ghrelin, a peptide hormone that increases appetite. Homeodomain-only protein (HOPX) functions via its interaction with SRF, thus modulating the expression of SRF-dependent cardiac-specific genes and cardiac development. HOPX inhibits SRF-dependent transcription either by hindering SRF binding to DNA or by engaging histone deacetylase (HDAC) proteins which prevent transcription by SRF. HOPX is a homeodomain protein which lacks certain conserved residues required for DNA binding. HOPX overexpression causes cardiac hypertrophy.
