Retinitis pigmentosa 9 (RP9) is assumed to be a target protein for the PIM1 kinase. The RP9 protein may have some roles in B-cell proliferation in association with PIM1. RP9 can be bound and phosphorylated by the protooncogene PIM1 product, a serine/threonine protein kinase. RP9 localizes in nuclear speckles containing the splicing factors, and has a part in pre-mRNA splicing. RP9 gene mutations result in autosomal dominant retinitis pigmentosa-9.

Bcl-2-like protein 11 (BCL2L11) is a member of the Bcl-2 family and contains a Bcl-2 homology domain 3 (BH3). BCL2L11 expression can be stimulated by nerve growth factor (NGF), in addition to the forkhead transcription factor (FKHR-L1) which proposes a role of the BCL2L11 gene in neuronal and lymphocyte apoptosis. BCL2L11 interacts with other members of the BCL-2 protein family, including BCL2, BCL2L1/BCL-X(L), and MCL1, and acts as an apoptotic activator. BimEL, BimL and BimS are the main isoforms which are ubiquitously expressed with a tissue-specific variation. The Isoform Bim-gamma, on the other hand, is most abundantly expressed in the small intestine and colon, and in lower levels in spleen, prostate, testis, heart, liver and kidney.

Adiponectin is an adipocyte specific secreted protein that circulates in the plasma. It is induced during adipocyte differentiation and its secretion is stimulated by insulin. Mouse adiponectin shares about 83% amino acid identity with that human. Adiponectin plays a role in various physiological processes such as energy homeostasis and obesity. Adiponectin is reduced in obese humans, and decreased level is associated with insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia.

PRRX1 is part of the paired family of homeobox proteins. PRRX1 functions as a transcription co-activator, enhancing the DNA-binding activity of serum response factor, a protein required for the induction of genes by growth and differentiation factors. UCHL1 is a part of the ubiquitin system, which regulates many biological activities. UCHL1 is a thiol protease that distinguishes and hydrolyzes a peptide bond at the C-terminal glycine of ubiquitin. UCHL1 binds to free monoubiquitin and avoids its degradation in lysosomes.

RAPSN is essential for the clustering of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChR). In addition RAPSN self-associates via at least two of its seven tetra-tricopeptide repeats (TPRs). RAPSN interacts with the large intracellular domain of the nAChR a subunit all the way through the hydrophobic surface of the coiled-coil domain. RAPSN modifies trafficking of AChR within the cell. Overexpression inhibits agrin-induced AChR clustering pathway. RAPSN also plays a role in postsynaptic congenital myasthenic syndromes.

Podoplanin is a small mucin-like type-1 transmembrane protein, typically expressed in various specialized cell types throughout the body. Podoplanin is a type-I integral membrane glycoprotein with diverse distribution in human tissues. PDPN physiological function is related to its mucin-type character. The homologous protein in other species has been described as a differentiation antigen and influenza-virus receptor.
PDPN is expressed in lymphatic progenitor cells and afterwards during mouse development in lymphatic endothelial cells. Podoplanin is a specific marker for lymph vessel endothelial cells. Over-expression of podoplanin significantly elevates endothelial cell adhesion, migration, and tube formation. Inhibition of Podoplanin expression decreases cell adhesion in human dermal lymphatic endothelial cells. Podoplanin is used as a specific marker for lymphatic endothelium in histopathology.

Calnexin (CANX) belongs to the calnexin family of molecular chaperones. Dickkopf-related protein 3 (DKK3) belongs to the DKK protein family including Dkk-1, 2, 3 and -4. DKK3 is a 350 amino acid secreted glycoprotein which is comprised of an N-terminal signal peptide and 2 conserved cysteine-rich domains that are separated by a 12 amino acid linker region. DKK3 is involved in embryonic development through its inhibition of the WNT signaling pathway. DKK3 gene expression is decreased in a variety of cancer cell lines and it may act as a tumor suppressor gene.

PRDX2 is part of the peroxiredoxin family of antioxidant enzymes, which reduce hydrogen peroxide and alkyl hydroperoxides. PRDX2 takes part as an antioxidant protective role in cells, and contributes to the antiviral activity of CD8(+) T-cells. PRDX2 has proliferative effect in cancer development or progression.

ANXA5 is an anticoagulant protein that acts as an indirect inhibitor of the thromboplastin-specific complex, which is involved in the blood coagulation cascade. ANXA5 regulates coagulability in the blood stream by binding to phosphatidylserine and sulfatide. ANXA5 protects sinsuoidal endothelial cells from ischemia reperfusion damage. ANXA5 is necessary for normal CFTR chloride channel activity.

S100 family members are localized in the cytoplasm and/or nucleus of a wide range of cells, and are involved in the regulation of a number of cellular processes such as cell cycle progression and differentiation. S100A5 has a Ca2+ affinity 20-100 fold higher than the other S100 proteins investigated under identical conditions. Furthermore, S100A5 protein binds Zn2+ and Cu2+, and Cu2+ strongly which harms the binding of Ca2+. S100A5 is expressed in very limited regions of the adult brain.
