Granulocyte Colony Stimulating Factor is a growth factor and/or cytokine produced by the endothelium, macrophages and a number of other immune cells. GCSF stimulates the bone marrow to produce granulocytes and also to stimulate the survival, proliferation, differentiation and function of neutrophil granulocyte progenator cells and mature neutrophils.

TNF-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) is a ligand molecule which induces apoptosis. It is a type II transmembrane protein with homology to other members of the tumor necrosis factor family.In humans, the gene that encodes for TRAIL is located at chromosome 3q26. TRAIL binds to the death receptors, DR4 and DR5. The process of apoptosis is caspase-8-dependent. This protein preferentially induces apoptosis in transformed and tumor cells, but does not appear to kill normal cells although it is expressed at a significant level in most normal tissues.

The secreted polypeptide noggin, encoded by the NOG gene, binds and inactivates members of the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) superfamily signaling proteins, such as bone morphogenetic protein-4 (BMP4). By diffusing through extracellular matrices more efficiently than members of the TGF-beta superfamily, noggin may have a principal role in creating morphogenic gradients. Noggin appears to have pleiotropic effect, both early in development as well as in later stages. It was originally isolated from Xenopus based on its ability to restore normal dorsal-ventral body axis in embryos that had been artificially ventralized by UV treatment. The results of the mouse knockout of noggin suggest that it is involved in numerous developmental processes, such as neural tube fusion and joint formation. Recently, several dominant human NOG mutations in unrelated families with proximal symphalangism (SYM1) and multiple synostoses syndrome (SYNS1) were identified; both SYM1 and SYNS1 have multiple joint fusion as their principal feature, and map to the same region (17q22) as NOG. All NOG mutations altered evolutionarily conserved amino acid residues. The amino acid sequence of human noggin is highly homologous to that of Xenopus, rat and mouse.

They are involved in physiological processes as embryogenesis, tissue remodelling and wound healing.

Arginase-1 is part of the urea cycle, it catalyzes the hydrolysis of arginine to ornithine and urea. There are two isoforms of mammalian arginase which differ in their tissue location, subcellular localization, immunologic crossreactivity & physiologic role. PNP is a member of the PNP/MTAP phosphorylase family of proteins. PNP catalyzes the reversible phosphorolysis of ribonucleosides and 2’-deoxyribonucleosides with specificity for guanine, hypoxanthine and their analogs. PNP deficiency is a rare autosomal recessive genetic disease linked to a severe defect in T-lymphocyte function and neurologic disorder in children, comprising four percent of combined immunodeficiency cases.

TDP1 belongs to the phospholipase D family and contains two PLD phosphodiesterase domains. TDP1 is involved in repairing stalled topoisomerase I-DNA complexes by catalyzing the hydrolysis of the phosphodiester bond between the tyrosine residue of topoisomerase I and the 3-prime phosphate of DNA. There are 2 types of soluble TNF receptors: sTNFR-I and sTNFR-II, which act to neutralize the biological activities of TNF alpha and TNF beta. The levels of these soluble receptors seem to increase as a result of shedding of the extracellular domains of the membrane bound receptors. TNF-a, TNFR1 and TNFR2 have roles in cellular differentiation. TNFR1 and TNFR2 function in cell type-specific renal injury.

Tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily member 21 or TNFRSF21, is a protein that located in the cell membrane from the TNF receptor superfamily. By activating the NF-kappaB pathway, TNFRSF21 promotes cell apoptosis. The degeneration of cells caused by activating caspase 3 and caspase 6, the TNFRSF21 binds to the N-terminal APP in neuronal cell bodies and axons which leads to apoptosis. TNFRSF21 takes part in signaling cascades activated by stimulation of T-cell receptor.

ABI gene family member 3 (ABI3) is a member of the ABI family. Members of the ABI family encode proteins which contain a homeobox homology domain, proline rich region and Src-homology 3 (SH3) domain. Abi family members are assumed to negatively regulate cell growth and transformation, including cellular transformation through v-Abl as well controlling as mediate cell motility by regulating actin polymerization in lamellipodia and filopodia. ABI3 impedes ectopic metastasis of tumor cells as well as cell migration, which is accomplished through interaction with p21-activated kinase.

CCNH is part of the cyclin family that is known for its protein abundance through the cell cycle. Cyclins act as regulators of CDK kinases. CCNH forms a complex with CDK7 kinase and ring finger protein MAT1. The kinase complex is able to phosphorylate CDK2 and CDC2 kinases, therefore it functions as a CDK-activating kinase (CAK). Uteroglobin (SCGB1A1) which belongs to the Secretoglobin (SCGBs) superfamily, is a multifunctional protein that exerts anti-inflammatory and anti-tumorigenic effects by binding small hydrophobic molecules such as phospholipids and prostaglandins. Uteroglobin is involved in numerous functions including anti-inflammation, inhibition of phospholipase A2 and the sequestering of hydrophobic ligands. SCGB1A1 is expressed by Clara cells, the non-ciliated, non-mucous secretory cells predominant in lung bronchioles, and by other epithelia which communicate with the external environment. On top of sequestering pro-inflammatory mediators and carcinogens, Uteroglobin is implicated in the inhibition of cell migration and invasion, platelet aggregation, and T cell differentiation. SCGB1A1 gene defects are associated with a susceptibility to asthma.

TRAIL Receptor-1 (DR4) and TRAIL Receptor-2(DR5) are members of the TNFR superfamily of transmembrane proteins and contain a cytoplasmic "death domain", which is capable of activating the cell's apoptotic machinery. These receptors are activated by binding to either membrane anchored or soluble TRAIL/Apo2L.

DUSP3 belongs to the dual specificity protein phosphatase subfamily which inactivates their target kinases by dephosphorylating both the phosphoserine/threonine and phosphotyrosine residues. DUSP3 negatively regulate members of the mitogen-activated protein kinase superfamily that are related to cellular proliferation and differentiation. DUSP3 is expressed in both breast and ovarian tissues and displays activity both for tyrosine-protein phosphate and serine-protein phosphate, but exhibits a strong preference toward phosphotyrosines, specifically dephosphorylates and inactivates ERK1 and ERK2.

NAPA is part of the SNAP (Soluble NSF Attachment Protein) family. SNAPs, acting together with SNAREs (SNAP receptors) and the N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive fusion protein (NSF), are necessary for the fusion of transport vesicles to their objective membranes in synaptic transmission, intra-Golgi transport, endosome-to-endosome fusion and transcytotic vesicles-to-plasma membrane transport. NAPA is in charge of the binding of NSF and therefore the formation of a 20S fusion particle.

PPP1CA is one of the 3 catalytic subunits of protein phosphatase 1 (PP1). PP1 is a serine/threonine specific protein phosphatase which is involved in the regulation of a variety of cellular processes, such as cell division, glycogen metabolism, muscle contractility, protein synthesis, and HIV-1 viral transcription. Increased PP1 activity is detected in the end stage of heart failure. Studies in both human and mice suggest that PP1 is a significant regulator of cardiac function. Mouse studies also propose that PP1 functions as a suppressor of learning and memory.
