Ras-related protein Ral-A (RALA) is a member of the small GTPase superfamily, Ras family of proteins. RALA mediates a distinct downstream signaling pathway from Ras which facilitates cellular transformation. Furthermore, RALA is thought to be involved in various signaling cascades, including regulation of the cytoskeleton, vesicle trafficking, and endocytosis.

IL-1Ra is the natural antagonist of the pro-inflammatory cytokines Interleukin-1? and Interleukin-1?. IL-1Ra is produced by a variety of cells including monocytes, macrophages, neutrophils and fibroblasts in response to the binding of various pro-inflammatory cytokines.

Cytohesin-interacting protein, also known as CYTIP contains 2 leucine zipper domains as well as a putative C-terminal nuclear targeting signal. Leptin is a protein hormone with important effects in regulating body weight, metabolism and reproductive function. The protein is approximately~16 kDa in mass and encoded by the obese (ob)gene. leptin is expressed predominantly by adipocytes, which fits with the idea that body weight is sensed as the total mass of fat in the body. Smaller amounts of leptin are also secreted by cellsin the epithelium of the stomach and in the placenta. Leptin receptors are highly expressed in areas of the hypothalamus known to be important in regulating body weight, as well as in T lymphocytes and vascular endothelial cells.

Ribosomal Protein L35, also known as RPL35 is a ribosomal protein which is a component of the 60S subunit. Ribosomes are the organelles which catalyze protein synthesis, they consist of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. Jointly these subunits are composed of 4 RNA species and about 80 structurally different proteins. RPL35 is a member of the L29P family of ribosomal proteins. RPL35 is located in the cytoplasm. As typicaly for genes encoding ribosomal proteins, there are multiple processed pseudogenes of RPL35 dispersed through the genome.

Nephroblastoma Overexpressed (NOV) which is encoded by the NOV gene is a part of the CCN (CTGF/CYR61/NOV) family. NOV takes part in reducing tumorgenicity and proliferation of certain cancer cell lines. NOV interacts with numerous proteins and is involved in both internal and external cell signaling. NOV is expressed in particular tumors, including Wilm’s tumor and most nephroblastomas and is also exerts proangiogenic activities.

Tribbles Pseudokinase 3, also known as TRIB3, is a putative protein kinase which is induced by the transcription factor NF-kappaB. DnaJ homolog subfamily C member 24 (DNAJC24) belongs to the ZCSL family of proteins and each contain one DPH-type zinc finger. DNAJC24 is involved in the synthesis of diphthamide, a protein found on translation elongation factor EF-2 which is the target of bacterial ADP-ribosylating toxins. DNAJC24 stimulates the ATPase activity of few Hsp70-type chaperones. DNAJC24 detected in heart, brain, spleen, lung, liver, kidney and testis.

RAD1 is part of a heterotrimeric cell cycle checkpoint complex, recognized as the 9-1-1 complex, that is activated to stop cell cycle progression in reaction to DNA damage or incomplete DNA replication. CAMP Responsive Element Binding Protein 3-Like 2, also known as CREB3L2 belongs to the oasis bZIP transcription factor family. Members of this family are able to dimerize however from homodimers only. CREB3L2 is a transcriptional activator. Translocations between CREB3L2 on chromosome 7 and the gene fused in sarcoma on chromosome 16 can be found in some tumors. One disease which is associated with CREB3L2 is myxofibrosarcoma.

BCL10 holds a caspase recruitment domain (CARD), and is known as an inducer of apoptosis and as NF-kappaB activator. BCL10 cooperates with other CARD domain containing proteins such as CARD9, 10, 11 and 14, which operates as upstream regulators in NF-kappaB signaling. MCM7 is a highly conserved mini-chromosome maintenance protein (MCM) vital for eukaryotic genome replication initiation. The MCM proteins form a hexameric protein complex which is a key component of the pre-replication complex (pre_RC) which takes part in replication forks formation and in DNA replication related proteins recruitment. The MCM complex is comprised of MCM2, 4, 6 and 7 proteins and possesses DNA helicase activity, such as DNA unwinding.

NK3 Homeobox1 (NKX3-1) is a homeobox-containing transcription factor, which binds preferentially the consensus sequence 5'-TAAGT[AG]-3' and may act as a transcriptional repressor. The NKX3-1 transcription factor functions as a negative regulator of epithelial cell growth in prostate tissue. NKX3-1 has an imperative role in normal prostate development, regulating proliferation of glandular epithelium and in the formation of ducts in prostate. PRDX3 is part of the peroxiredoxin family of antioxidant enzymes, that reduces hydrogen peroxide and alkyl hydroperoxides. PRDX3 is particularly located in the mitochondria and involved in the regulation of cellular redox status by serving as a primary line of defense against H2O2 produced during respiration. PRDX3 is a significant regulator of the abundance of mitochondrial H(2)O(2), which itself promotes apoptosis in cooperation with other mediators of apoptotic signaling. PRDX3 mitochondrial protein is significantly decreased in Alzheimer Disease and Down Syndrome.

HIV-1 P24 gag, the key capsid protein of the HIV-1 virion, is used in clinical trials as one of the components of the HIV-1 vaccine because of the great extent of sequence homology between different isolates.

PA2G4 belongs to the peptidase M24C family and functions as an RNA-binding protein involved in cellular proliferation and differentiation processes. PA2G4 is a component of pre-ribosomal ribonucleoprotein complexes, participating in ribosome assembly and regulating the later steps of rRNA processing. Also, PA2G4 interacts with ErbB-3 and may function as a modulator of the ErbB-3 mediated signal transduction pathway by regulating the effects of Neuregulin-1. Furthermore, PA2G4 is a transcriptional co-repressor of androgen receptor-regulated genes and other cell cycle regulatory genes through its interactions with histone deacetylases. PA2G4 is implicated in growth inhibition and the induction of differentiation of human cancer cells. DnaJ (Hsp40) Homolog, Subfamily B, Member 4 (DNAJB4) is a member of the evolutionarily conserved DNAJ/HSP40 protein family. DNAJB4 subunit configuration is homodimer. DNAJB4 possibly functions as a chaperone. DNAJB4 C-terminal section interacts with the C-terminal tail of OPRM1. DNAJB4 also has an interaction with SDIM1. DNAJB4 is expressed in the heart, pancreas and skeletal muscle, and to a lesser extent in the brain, placenta and liver.

Coiled-Coil-Helix-Coiled-Coil-Helix Domain Containing 7, also known as CHCHD7 is a newly recognized member of a multifamily of proteins which contains a conserved (coiled coil 1)-(helix 1)-(coiled coil 2)-(helix 2) domain. The biological function of CHCHD7 is unknown and the gene has up till now not been connected with neoplasia. In addition, CHCHD7 & PLAG1 are located head-to-head about 500 bp apart in 8q12. Molecular analyses of twenty seven tumors exposed CHCHD7-PLAG1 fusions in three tumors, two of them had t(6;8) and t(8;15) translocations as a singular anomalies and one a normal karyotype.

MDS1 is a transcriptional regulator and oncoprotein which takes part in hematopoiesis, development, cell differentiation, apoptosis and proliferation. MDS1 is able to interact with CTBP1, SMAD3, CREBBP, KAT2B, MAPK8, and MAPK9. Overexpression, as a result of translocation with the AML1 gene, is known to cause leukemia. A number of transcript variants encoding several different isoforms were found.

Ectodysplasin A Receptor, also known as EDAR belongs to the tumor necrosis factor receptor family. EDAR is a receptor for the soluble ligand ectodysplasin A, and is capable of activating the nuclear factor-kappaB, JNK, as well as caspase-independent cell death pathways. EDAR is necessary for the development of hair, teeth, and other ectodermal derivatives. Furthermore, mutations in EDAR resulted in autosomal dominant and recessive forms of hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia.
