GLC8 is a regulatory subunit of protein phosphatase 1 (Glc7p). GLC8 plays a role in glycogen metabolism and chromosome segregation, and regulates Glc7p activity through conformational alteration; ortholog of the mammalian protein phosphatase inhibitor 2. Under regular conditions, GLC8 triggers GLC7, but when GLC8 is over epxressed, it inhibits Glc7p function.
